Installation Error Acronis True Image Home 2011

Thread needs solution

Hi, this is my first post!
I purchased the Acronis True Image Home 2011 download and installed over the top of ATIH 2010.
It was smooth except for an error message... I have attached it to this post.
I did a backup and it seems to be functioning in that respect.

The program crashes windows though when I try to perform an Acronis Tools and Utilities > System Clean-up. I have 8 GB of RAM and the system resources indicates that RAM usage steadily goes from 20 % consumed to 85 % over about 2-3 minutes and then windows tells me the program has crashed and shuts Acronis down. The RAM usage then drops back to 20 %.
Acronis updated itself yesterday before I used this function.

My system is an i5 750 Win 7 64 bit.
Does anyone else have this problem? Should I remove and reinstall?

Hi FlashmanAB,

I can't open your attachment at the moment, but I would run a repair install of 2011 to begin with.

Is your 2011 the latest build 5519? Is your copy an upgrade build or a full one?

You've actually posted your problem in the 'big boys forum' that is the corporate one, if you edit your post you can transfer this thread to the TI Home forum, where more 2011 users are going to see your post, so hopefully you are more likely to get a swathe of answers there.

Hi Colin B, Thanks for the reply. I have moved my post over and changed the attachment to a pdf - I hope it works now.

In case it doesn't, the error message says:
Module C:\Program Files (x86)\Acronis\TrueImageHome\x64\backup_cpl_control.dll failed to register. HRESULT -1073740940. Contact your support personnel.

I tried as you suggested but I had to uninstall TI 2011 because I could not find the originally downloaded install file.
I then manually downloaded and installed TI 2011 but it gave the same error message. I then did a repair install and it gave the same error. I then did a repair install as an administrator but it still gave the same error message.

By the way, I love the new user interface. I find it simpler and more straight forward but the advanced functions are still there if you need them.

Flashman,

Just to check, the build you are using is 5519?

I see where the problem is and you'll be pleased to know there are a couple of threads here where a number of people would love to ahve your problem.

The integration into W7 Backup and Recovery control panel object has failed. All the basic function sof TI 2011 should still work, it is just the Windows Recovery panel won't report TI images.

I would guess that your problem is either caused by something left over from 2010 or perhaps you have some form of user policy enacted on your PC. Is this a work issued PC?

What is your UAC setting?

Which firewall software do you use - this might be preventing this DLL from installing properly.

Is the DLL actually in the folder mentioned?

I am using Norton Internet Security 2011. I have TI build 5519. The dll is in the folder.
My UAC is the default - 'Don't notify me when I make changes but notify me if programs try to make changes.'
The file date for the dll is last month (September 2010) about the same date as the other files in the same folder.

I disabled UAC, disabled NIS 2011 firewall and virus protection and restarted the computer with that configuration.
I then repair/installed acronis. I got the same error message.
I guess, even though it is not fully functioning, it is functioning.
So long as it does not fail... at the crucial moment... I actually need to rely on it......
Mmm, I am a little concerned that I might need a backup, backup plan now......

Flashman,

I don't have any further ideas at this moment. This is definitely not a company PC which has user access policies enabled?

Make an image, validate it, make sure you can mount or view the image from within Windows and the very importantly make a rescue CD and boot from it. Make sure that it can see all your hardware and then validate again the image. If this goes without a hitch, then from a recovery point of view all is OK.

Hello FlashmanAB and Colin,

Thank you very much for all your posts, and I want to thank Colin for his contribution.

FlashmanAB, I will definitely help you.

For unknown reason your OS fails to register this backup_cpl_control.dll file properly. Please check this tutorial to register it manually.

If you have additional questions, please let me know.

Thank you.

Anton, I have followed those instructions and the dll has registered. Thank you for your help.
