I had a corrupted windows 7 (64Bit) installation after updating a NVIDIA graphics card driver. The computer didn't boot completely. I tried start with last good configuration, save mode, restore system point, but all did not help. So I decide to recover the system partition from acronis disk image backup, but the boot medium cd with true image home 2012 build 5.545 did not work. I got the error message several times I tried it: "recovery failed". Now I have no data on system partition, because true image deletes it during first try to recover. Meanwhile I have installed windows 7 and most of my application manually again without recovery of disk image. I only use ATI2012 in windows 7 mode to recover my documents, music, images and videos from backup by data file restore. But the problem exists. And if I need it again to recover with boot medium, what can I do, that it then works successfully. E-Mail support and chat from acronis could not find a solution for this problem.
Another problems are the security settings of the files in the backup archive. Because they are backuped with another user - the new user in new windows 7 installation is not the same as before, allthough it has the same name - the recoverd files are not accessible by the new windows user. I have manually - with administrator rights - to change all security settings of each recoverd file.
My hardware is a HP Pavilion dv8-1190eg notebook with two internal hard disks. The first hard disk has four partitions: BOOT (boot manager, NTFS), OS (NTFS) (windows 7 system), RECOVERY (NTFS) and HP-TOOLS (FAT32). The backup archive is stored on a 3000GB Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk USB drive (advanced formated - the format could be accessed successfully). Single files I could recover from disk image the network drive with boot medium cd. Only recovery of OS partition failed, recovery of BOOT works. Backup archive is validated.
