Hi All,

I need some help on recovering the backup using bootable media. I had created storage node and managed vault with deduplication enabled to store the backups. When I initiated full back up from management console it successfully saved backup to the vault. I checked the size of backup which is only 604 MB however the size of the original drive which I backed up was more than 100 GB. Now, my machine is crashed and I am not able to restore machine using that 604 MB backup file which is stored in vault. I had old backup (27 Gb in Size) which was created and store without using centralized vault, I am trying to recover the machine using that backup but recovery speed is very slow. Please let me know why I am not able to recover centralized vault backup file by running bootable media.

Thanks

Hello Dayanand,

welcome to Acronis forums!

I checked the size of backup which is only 604 MB however the size of the original drive which I backed up was more than 100 GB.

Looks like this backup was not completed/properly created or corrupted.

However, you can check whether any useful information could be extracted from this backup (this functionality is available only in Windows by using File Explorer).

I am trying to recover the machine using that backup but recovery speed is very slow.

The recovery speed depends on many factors such as backup physical location, enabled encryption, compression level, etc.

Hi Maria,
Thanks for your reply.
As you mentioned, the backup file of size 606 MB may have been corrupted or may not have been properly backed up. Please note that, this backup was created using the deduplication and managed vault. I could recover the machine using the acronis 12.5 backup management console from the same backup file of 604 Mb. Now, the scenario is my machine is failed (OS is corrupted) hence management console can't communicate to this machine so only option is to use acronis bootable media on target machine and recover the backup. My question is, if machine can be recovered using the that backup file of 604 MB created in managed vault using deduplication.
Thanks in advance,

Hello Dayanand.

The main difficulty is that to access a backup stored on a managed vault and created with deduplication you can only via Acronis Storage Node. You will need to install ASN on a clean Windows, then add a new managed vault and point it to folders with the backups and deduplication database. Then you can boot this machine from Acronis Bootable Media and restore from this backup via ASN.

We suggest that you contact Acronis Support Team who will guide through this process and provide you with the detailed step-by-step instructions.
