BUG: Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office Creating Paths to old backups that no longer exist at random

ACP has inheriteted a VERY ANNOYING and long standing bug from TI.

The program at random starts recreating the paths for backup files that no longer exist in the job manager and haven't for a very long time. Why it even still has this data is beyond me, there is NO GOOD REASON for it to be storing this data at all.

What I'm talking about are jobs that no longer exist either in the interface or physically on disk.

e.g.

Say after a Windows reinstall you restore data from a number of jobs in G:\OLD JOBS\SSD & G:\OLD JOBS\E, you remove the jobs from the interface and delete the backups and their paths.

You create new jobs and all is well, but  then ACP starts recreating OLD JOBS\SSD & OLD JOBS\E on the G: drive again, with no files in the paths they completely empty and serve no purpose at all.

You can delete the folders all you like, but minutes and sometimes just seconds later it recreates them again!

Any jobs running have absolutely nothing to to do with the old backup or paths, ie I'm not restoring to this path(s), trying to access anything from this path(s) in fact ACP shouldnt even know about these paths anymore!

Only way to seeming stop this happening is to completely vaporise anything acronis and recreate the jobs yet again!  Hoping this time I wont get the same bug happening again (which it always does eventually).

Rummaging through the Scripts and Database folders in ProgramData shows indeed these old paths are contained in the settings for some reason, but without a means of getting rid of them without having to destroy all the jobs, it bloody useless.

Any way to fix this bug which also showed up in TI aswell?

Assuming that by jobs here you are referring to Acronis backup tasks as created / shown in the main GUI Backup panel...

The normal reason why old backup task paths reappear is because files belonging to those old tasks have been deleted or moved outside of the options offered in the Acronis GUI, which leaves behind references to the tasks in the internal database used to track all files.

If you are seeing references to such old paths within the Scripts .tib.tis files, then this suggests that you have tasks that have been brought forward from earlier times when those paths were being used previously.

Doing a full clean install of Acronis is one method of resolving this type of problem but only if you make a clean start for your backup tasks too, so that everything is new and there are no references to old paths being imported back.

Note: doing a restore of the C:\ProgramData\Acronis folders from a backup will undo such changes if the backup was created prior to the clean install.

The other method, is to force a rebuild of the internal database as described in KB 60915: Acronis True Image: repairing program settings.  Note: Acronis Active Protection needs to be turned off before you can make any changes to the database folder / files.  Also, rebuilding the database will not remove old paths found in Script files.

I had something like this occurring on my system running ATI 2019. What I was able to discern is that the folders were being recreated at the time full backups were run, but not incrementals.

Can you be more specific about where you found these folders referenced in the Database folders in ProgramData.

OK, Thanks for the replies.

I've tried the "repair program settings" action you (Steve) suggested and it appears to be working (so far).

But one thing is that its a little out of date (referring to TI) and there appears to be no way to completely turn off self protection in ACP's revised interface.  Using the "Turn off protection" button might disable some things but when stopping the services, 2 services (AcronisActiveProtectionService and AcronisCyberProtectionService) and 2 exe (anti_ransomware_service.exe and cyber-protect-service.exe) cannot be stopped, this however doesn't appear to prevent the setting recreation.

p.s. BrunoC, it does indeed seem to be mainly when full backups are run. This will explain some of the seeming "randomness" I've been encountering.

Thanks again, I'll report back in a few days if it has indeed solved the problem.
