Failed to creat volume snapshot

Hi,
I have backup and recvoery 10 running on sbs2008, it has now started to fail most nights with the following log entry.
Operation with partition '0-0' was terminated.

I have checked vss is enabled as per furom and I have updated to latest release as per forum.
Can anyone shed any light?

Received a similar error - unable to create snapshot. File level backup - always create a snapshot
I created this task about 3 weeks ago and ran fine. Build 12708. Am I correct in that w/o a snapshot - files in use will not get backed up??? VSS or non-VSS,MS or ACRONIS ??? THANK You

Mine started a week ago. Check your services. If Acronis VSS Providor service is running stop and disable it. I found that little tib bit on anoter thread. It seemed to fix mine.

I've yet to complete a backup without the VSS error and have tried every VSS option and suggestion in this forum. I found the system provider for Win 7 was not set to automatically start so I changed that and still no success.
Acronis support provided the updated driver package SnapAPI so that was installed and a new backup plan created after restart and still VSS errors.
If Acronis knew what was causing this there would already be a fix. I have tried multiple machines and they each encounter the VSS problem and occasionally this error stops the backup.
I hope a solution is found soon as time is being waste and deployment halted.

Hi Richard
What I would suggest checking into is ensure that the Acronis VSS and Microsoft VSS services are currently STOPPED!
Then edit your backup job and make sure you are using the System provider VSS option (this should use Microsoft VSS as the main snapshot engine.
I’ve had a few customers where VSS seemed to get in a confused state and manually stopping both Acronis and MS VSS services seemed to reset things and get backups working constantly from then on.

So far I have been able to successfully complete a backup of random files from each drive on two Windows 7 computers without VSS error.
I had to set both the Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider and the Volume Shadow Copy services to manual start because both are shown to be in use during the backup.
I set both the plan and default Volume Shadow Copy Service to use "Software - System Provider".
So far, about 25% for one and 40% complete for the other, no VSS or partition locking errors appear before data backup begins.

Windows 2003 R2 Server SP2
I just completed my first successful backup with v11 since installing a few weeks ago. I disabled the Acronis VSS Provider in services and changed the volume shadow copy service in the job to Software - System Provider. The job completed with warnings. So the backup worked but the SS still failed. In services the MS provider says started even after the job completes. I had to manually stopped it.
Has anyone tried disabling the MS VSC service and using the Acronis provider?

Yes I tried it using only MS VSC and using only Acronis VSS and errors were received.
I also changed the VSS method in the plan and the default settings using all variations and continued receiving errors.
Only with both services enabled and the method described above would complete without errors on two machines.

This error is pretty common, and points onto several possible reasons. We have them described in this KB article as well as the solutions. Could you please try the suggested steps, and let us know if the issue remains?
