Backup Failed to Lock File

Hi there,

 

We have started to see issues over the past few days with nightly backups failing trying to lock the file xxxx.tibx

The error that we get is failed to lock the file, to get round this we have had to restart the server, however in a live production environment, that's not always possible.

Using fsmgmt.msc on both archive server (NAS) this file is not locked or in use by any other process.

We have attempted to restart all Acronis services on host and NAS and yet we still get the same error.

Below are the activity log & error message.

The job itself has File-Level-Backups snapshot set to Always create a snapshot

VSS is setup to automatically select snapshot provider.

However the issue appears to be with the destination end and not the actual host end.

Can anyone suggest what the issue may be and how I resolve, without having to restart the server?

Hi Duncan,

Such symptoms may occur if the .tibx file is browsed through Windows explorer shell extension, e.g. if you open the .tibx archive via double-click and don't close the explorer with opened folder which contains .tibx file - it's not sufficient to close just the archive browsing window - you need to close other associated explorer windows (internal bug ID for this behavior: ABR-147629). Most likely this is the root cause of behavior you see. If you don't perform browsing of the archive via Windows explorer shell extensions, then it makes sense to continue the investigation with our support team involved.
