Hello Alex and Carl,
Thank you for your posts. I will do my best to help you with this issue.
Currently there is a problem within our software that brings up this prompt. Most likely there is a problem with the user permissions from which the program is being installed. I would recommend the following article to check the proper permissions to work with ABR10.
As a workaround, you can continue using Microsoft VSS and your backup integrity should not be affected. I will update this thread as soon as I have additional information from our Development team.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you.

Same issue when installing ABR10 (build 13762) on virtual machines with Windows 2008 R2 SP1.
Any solution?

Hi katbert,
Acronis Backup and Recovery uses Microsoft System Provider to create volume shadow copies. Though we have our own VSS Provider, it will always interact with the native MS VSS Service. I would suggest using the native System Provider and it is also the recommended setting for backing up application servers (Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft SharePoint, or Active Directory). More information on Volume Shadow Copy Service you may find here.
Thank you!

My problem is related, but I think is worst. When try to install the Acronis agent into a Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2, it pops up a message
"The following services should be enabled to install Acronis VSS Provider Service:
VSS (Not installed)"
The service is totally missing, isn't in the services list when I run services.msc. I've run an sfc /scannow and no corruption on file system were encountered

Hello Leonardo,
Welcome to Acronis forums!
Acronis Backup and Recovery 11 has been released earlier than Windows Server 2012 R2. Thus, this OS is not supported in this version: https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ABR11/index.html#13684.html
