Acronis Log Viewer 2.10 does not work any more after 25.8.39615 upgrade

Thread needs solution

Today I have upgraded  Acronis True Image 25.8.39216 to Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office Build 39615

Prior to upgrade, logfiles location folder was C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs\ti_demon

and Acronis Log Viewer 2.10 shows them perfect

After upgrade, logfiles location has been probably changed, so Log Viewer shows nothing.  After two successful scheduled backups today, I did not find any logfile under ProgramData\Acronis subfolders :-(

I have downloaded MVPAssistant, but did not understand, how I can get an "old style" Logfiles view there

Thanks in advance,

Valery Shampal

Valery, see forum topic: Cyber Protect Home Office and MVP Assistant - the Assistant tool will need to be updated to handle the changed file locations brought by ACPHO and we didn't get any preview or beta to allow this to happen previously!

The original Log Viewer tool stopped working effectively when ATI 2020 was released because it didn't know the log locations for new logs brought with that version and the author isn't involved in the forums any longer!

Hi,

As always, thank you for a fast answer.

1. First of all, Acronis Log Viewer 2.10 worked perfect before & after 27-05-2021, the date I have upgraded Acronis 2020 to 2021 version. This regarding a second part in your answer :-)

2. I'll look into MVP Assistant topic to understand when it will work as Log Viewer

3. May be you know, how they call Acronis Backup Logfiles under Active Logs? There are a lot of types of them, so good to know, where to search after they fix a bug

Thank you one more timt and have a nice weekend!

Valery

Hi, Steve.

Something interesting, otherwise would not bother you.

First of all, a new version of MVP Assistant 1.1.1.0 now shows Acronis log files.

But what I want to tell you, is something different

As I wrote, I have installed a new Acronis release on 08-09-2021 and since this date MVP Log Viewer did not show log files, as we know. In order to keep for a couple of month old logfiles, I have restored them from the last System Disk backup (01-09-2021) into a folder C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs\ti_demon , one that has been deleted during Acronis update installation. Thus, now I can see old logfiles with an old and cute MVP Log Viewer.

And here starts an interesting part of the story! From now, I can see all new log files in both viewers - in an old one and in a new one. Definitely, all new logfiles (after 08-09-2021) are being created only under a new folder C:\ProgramData\Acronis\CyberProtectHomeOffice\Logs\ti_demon

Just for your information :-)

Have a nice weekend,

Valery

Valery,

From what I could see in the update to Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office, everything under the TrueImageHome data folder was moved to the CyberProtectHomeOffice data folder, so all the old logs were maintained.

In updating the MVP Assistant, I look in both places for logs. I'm not sure how the old Log Viewer worked, but I think perhaps it might be looking for all log files in all folders under C:\ProgramData\Acronis (although that is just a guess).

Since restoring the old logs back to the the TrueImageHome folder branch, are you seeing the older logs now twice in the MVP Assistant?

BTW, before updating the MVP Assistant, I had pondered the idea of simply creating a junction link from C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome to C:\ProgramData\Acronis\CyberProtectHomeOffice. I never tried it but I suspect it would have worked for both log viewers.

Finally, what is it about the old MVP Log Viewer that makes it "cute"? How can I bring cuteness into the MVP Assistant viewer?

Thanks,
Bruno

Hi, Bruno

That what I also think - "perhaps it might be looking for all log files in all folders under C:\ProgramData\Acronis",  because I can not find a different explanation :-) But the trick was, that until an old folder has been created and log files restored, a previous Log Viewer find nothing.

I mentioned that old files in the new location are not sorted by backup dates. Anyway, it is not so important. So do not pay attention. All is good! :-)

Regarding "cute", it was just a joke. But as you can see, a view is a little bit different from the same data. I just used to see it in the previous form, but really, there is mostly no difference

Thus, thank you for your answer and help!

Have a nice and healthy weekend.

Valery

P.S. No junctions, please. They make troubles for Acronis during backups.

Valery, I had not noticed this before. Unfortunately, the installation of ACPHO did not maintain the date modified which is what I had used in the program to sort the files in the tree. To me this is a very big problem for my log viewer, not just for the major inconvenience of finding the old logs of interest, but also for culling logs based on dates. The only other way to determine the period of time covered by a log file is to read and parse each file (which can be very time consuming).

I will look into doing something about the situation where the filename contains a date and time, but I don't think this will work in many cases.

An end user workaround may be to go to a backup created right before the ACPHO installation and restore the files from the old folder such that the dates are maintained.

Thanks for pointing this out.

Dear Bruno,

I personally think that fixing this minor problem does not worth your effort. Frankly, from my point of view, a log file has to be eaten when it is fresh :-)

I mean, one will look only into last log files, if at all - not all users are such nudnik as I am, so investigating old log files will be a rare case.

Valery

P.S.

That was exactly what I did, as I wrote. I restored all old log files into the previous location, so I can see them with an old viewer. Theoretically, I will need them for less than two month - then all my old backups will be deleted.

Valery, while you may not be concerned, the issue is important enough to fix. I've explained it in this thread about the new MVP Assistant.

Thanks again for catching this.

Every bug is important and must to be fixed :-)

I read thread about the new MVP Assistant. You are right, to fix this problem might be important for corporate IT departments, I used to be a part of, while now I'm only a "home user".

Thank you for an answer.

All the best,

Valery
