TI2013 by Acronis 6514 bootable disc does not detect hard drives

There are some crossed wires in the above posts.

Firstly, for Windows 8, I recommend using the winpe boot disk - I had probklems with Linux disk. The Winpe4 disk seems to be more robust (better drivers?)

You do not need to boot in EUFI mode to backup/restore EUFI disks. This seem to be the main source of confusion.

I have used both build 5551 and 6514 winpe boot disks, and they will boot in legacy mode. Note: Some Samsungs are a real PITA as they do not seem to allow legacy mode. I have the opposite problem (with a Sony Vaio) I cannot get it to boot in EUFI mode, and I have to reset bios. This is a minor inconvenience only.

Easiest option is to produce Winpe4 boot disk using 5551, followiing instructions on sticky note in this forum. You will almost certainly need to use legacy mode to boot.

People state thay have lost the previous versions. If you log on to the acronis web site and go to you account, you can download previous versions including plus pack.

You can also use latest version to produce winpe4 disk. Be careful and read post around 83 to 90 in sticky, as method has changed in creating boot iso. THis iso when burnt to DVD or USB allegedly will boot in EUF mode. I have not been able to do that.

If you have older version of boot disk, you can replace the trueimage.exe file from older version and update in iso of latest version. This is the trueimage.exe from the winpe4.zip file. This will overcome the GPT bug. This works as recovery files created with 6514 are backwards compatible. Later posts in sticky for winpe4 creation help.

If I don't own the Plus Pack, so I don't think WinPE is an option for me; maybe I am wrong.

What I don't understand is if Acronis has made patch files and the likes available to stitch together working media for UEFI/GPT/Win8, why don't they compile an ISO that we can download and burn that will work for us with no muss or fuss. That would be great customer service... yes they have a build issue they need to fix, but they provide the workaround.

@Martin Wills

you state that resetting the bios is a minor inconvenience! I create offline backups on my Sony Vaio, so press Assist, then F2 to go into bios, change UEFI mode and boot to legacy. Insert the WinPE based Acronis disk, press F10 to reboot. Create the backup, remove DVD and shutdown. Press Assist again to go back into bios and restore the changes made......

Hi Erich,
When I mean minor inconvenience, it only takes a few minutes to do exactly as you describe. I consider this a small price for overall data integrity. I would love to be able to boot to EUFI to aviod the hassle, but I have never found a way with Sony Vaio to do that.

Of course, it is possible to boot with UEFI and Secure Boot enabled, just not with Acronis True Image. I created a Sony Vaio rescue USB and Win 8 Boot USB

Hi OLEG.

I downloaded and burned a dvd with the file ATIH2013_6520_US.iso that was available.

My original (bought) software was a ATIH2013 build 6514 and at Clone Disk tool I had problems with non visible GPT hard disk on Windows 8 .

I booted my system with this new iso image dvd burned and run Clone Disk tool again.

I performed the DISK CLONE tool with this steps:

1] clone mode - Automatic (default)

2] source disk -> select the source hard disk from the list below:
...........disk 2 ............
.......>>disk 3 Unsuported ....931.5Gb....iswstripe.......RAID <<..........

When I select [disk 3] I get the following message:
[ An emtpy hard disk cannot be selected as a source disk for cloning ]

I think the ATIH2013_6520_US.iso image not yet solved the problem of ATIH2013 see / recognize GPT disks in Windows 8.

Can you give me a new direction?

TIA

It didn't work for me at all. The screen just went black as it was booting into True Image. Oh well, back to ver. 5551 until a fix comes out.

Agreed - it is only Acronis we have this problem with. However, I am not sure we can entirely "blame" Acronis, as I have had all sorts of problems with other backup packages not working well with my Sony Vaio. As I said earlier, I can use Acronis in legacy mode (PITA but it works).

Now - I would really like to get an update asap from Acronis to fix GPT bug when using boot disk.

Hi Colin,

the patch was applied to the Win7 install - before creating rescue disks. However, on the Win 8 notebook, the patch was rejected. I had installed build 6514

The 5551 patch is also rejected on Win 7 with 6514 installed.

Given that we cannot peform either a backup/restore or a clone on GPT drives using the 6514 rescue media, here is my workaround for creating a clone:

--With ATIH2013 build 6514 in Windows, back up the primary GPT disk to an external USB HDD
--Recover the backup to a second internal GPT disk

I am composing this with the second disk. As may be seen from the file, Build 6514 does support EFI GPT disks from within Windows 7. The file shows the information that I received as I began the recovery from the external HDD to a second internal HDD. To boot with the second internal HDD, Drive 1, all I had to do was to unplug Drive 0.

Please also note that, because Acronis recommends always creating a backup before attempting a clone, this method doesn't actually take any additional time.

Hi There,

I am having the same issue with build 6514 and win 8 looking at GPT disk shows no disk information.

Is there a patch or workaround available yet ?

Cheers Mike.

The fix has been applied to the iso of the bootable media. Sign into your account, click my products and downloads, select your acronis 2013 product, and download the bootable media. I have tested the new iso and it works fine with gpt and uefi systems.

 Hello all,

Thank you for taking time to contact us.

Joey is correct, ISO file with the fix is available under your accounts (serial key should be registered).

It is True Image 2013 of build 6528. The build number mentioned under the "Product native bootable media" item should be disregarded.

Thank you.

I'll test the bootable media, can that be placed onto a USB?

I can burn the ISO to DVD/CD, however the thin clients I hyave don't include a ROM drive.

I'll see if I can dig up an external, but I want to know if I have this right:

Make the CD, using PP iso.

Boot the machine in question to be imaged with it, make the image as I typically do.

boot next machine using ext CD and then recover said image.

Correct?

Victor,

Yes it can, one way is to have a USB stick with Grub4DOS loaded onto it (I use RMPREP) and then just copy the ISO over to it, and boot. Another way is to make a bootable USB stick and then use some software that will expand an ISO onto your USB stick.

From within TI itself (which of course you can't use at the moment) if a USB stick is plugged in you can directly make a bootable USB stick from Media Builder.

Note: in preparing the USB stick to be bootable requires it to be blank.

Hi colin,

Making my post when you did yours .... :)

will look at that as well.

Update, yes the iso burned ok, using an external I have build 6528 on DVD, and it booted on the machine in question, AND, it is working fine as far as the issue, I can now select the disk whereas it wasn't available under 6514.

how soon might we get 6528 as a release upgrade so that the media builder will then create USB media that will work for us?
(Though this will work for me until then)

Thanks!

I just saw the post about the new 6528 release being available. I uninstalled original 2013 and downloaded [new] 2013 + plus pack and reinstalled. At the time I downloaded the files I saw it was still listed as 6514 but understand from forum note that is is actuallu 6528? Anyway, I burned recovery media to DVD and when I booted from DVD media and selected backup disks options I could only see my backup USB drive and not the internal hard drive or its partitions at all. Did I do something wrong or is this still defective? Any help would be greatly appreciated--Thank You guys!

Joseph,

You download the bootable media tab, NOT the main download (and then recreating rescue media), then burn the ISO to CD/DVD and boot from that, that will give you the newer build that will then work when you use that to boot up the machine.

I'm making an image now and will report back later today on results of the image recover.

Update:

Working fine, I can recover the images created, which is a relief with the number of PC's I need to image today.

Will await word on the general release of build 6528 to update 6514 on my lab PC, I figure at that point I'll remake my USB stick thru the software and move on from there.

Thanks again Oleg!

Hello gan, James,

thank you for your posts.

Gan, thank you for your support of Acronis products and for your feedback.

Since the problem with recognition of GPT disks is related to bootable media only, it was decided not to release installation file with fix publicly.

But I'll send you a download link for installation file of True Image Home 2013 by Acronis containing fix for following issues:

-Boot media doesn't recognize GPT disk in backup wizard.

-Wireless keyboard or mouse does not work under the boot media.

via PM, so that you can create a WinPE media.

Thank you for your understanding.

http://forum.acronis.com/forum/42839

This is just unacceptable. At the very least there should be a publicly released patch to apply to build 6514 to correct the rescue media builder. If not, I want one to update the name of my product to True Image 2014 Beta. We have been forced to use a semi functional product for months, and now we are left with an "unfinished product". At least they "kind of" fixed the issues for systems with cd/dvd drives. Customers with thin devices that only have usb ports get to search the forums and the internet for complicated tutorials to make the iso into a bootable usb media (using third party software), even though the software they paid money for is supposed to accomplish this task in a few clicks. According to the dates on the posts from the link above the new iso has been up for at least a month, so... yeah thanks again Oleg for your prompt customer service.

I am very dissatisfied with the quality of True Image 2013, and I don't believe we were given what was promised in the product's description.
http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/#overview

Extreme Media Versatility - Can't natively create functional usb rescue media.
GPT Support - "Sort of" supports GPT almost a year after its release.

I feel like we all paid to become beta users for Acronis's upcoming release.

I would agree with the post above.

While it is great that you have provided an updated downloadable ISO image, I paid for the Pus Pack in order to create my own WinPE images.

Are we going to be able to download updated installers for True Image 2013 & Plus Pack from our account and if so when?

I expect that I must just be dense but when I was told that to get a working copy of the corrected iso that I needed to download some "media tab" and not the product from the main page I looked back and just didn't know and didn't find what you guys were talking about and decided then that I just needed to be quiet and I expected I would just have to wait a few more days to be able to download and re-install the corrected product and trusted that everything would be well. But now it sounds like there isn't going to be a corrected product!?! I created a USB drive version from the product before and it worked much better on my computer than the DVD version [it wasn't so sluggish when I went through options]. If ACRONIS isn't going to be professional enough to put out a corrected product then I must have really been dumb to buy the product in the first place. I apologize if I sound disappointed but I am.

I have to chime in and agree with Joey as well to the quote he pasted from "Anna".

I have tried several iso to usb methods to create uefi bootable USB stick with the working TI media that I had burnt to DVD to use on the machines I imaged a few days ago, but that program and even rufus complains that the iso (the TI media iso image, tried both TI and the PP) needs to be based on bootmgr/winPE, isolinux or EFI, but says that the TI iso I'm trying appears to be neither of them, and so I cant use it to place onto USB.

This is unacceptable. Acronis has a iso that when burned to CD will function, but is not going to release that build to update the installed programs so that we may simply make a USB bootable device? This basically still leaves the program that was purchased as unusable.

Workarounds are terrific, but not a solution, and from what we are all reading, it seems that there is no real handle on the situation.

If the media ISO works in all respects, that should be incorporated into the full release and given out.

I want that release to simply be able to toss on a USB flash drive, and make a fully working USB bootable media for win 8 GPT.

I shouldn't have to obtain an external CD device, or have to figure out other methods of piecing together a bootable USB when the program touts an internal method.

Let me know when I may have that build.

Download the Rescue Media .iso from your account. It can be made into a bootable USB flash drive using various tools, many of which are described here:
http://www.toptrix.net/2012/03/bootable-usb-making-tools-windows-linux…

If you want multiple bootable .iso images on a single flash drive (True Image, anti-virus, hardware diagnostics, etc.), you can do what I do and use Xboot.

You did not read my post, nor Joey's.

One, we shouldn't HAVE to go through this to make a proper USB rescue media when you are touting the TI is fully compatible witn win 8, yet obviously not.

Two, I tried that and reported the results, which you didn't read. Please go back over the post. It didn't work.

I read them. I can't do anything about issuing a new Windows version, as I don't work for Acronis. I don't "tout" anything, I'm not staff.
I'm offering help as best I can, offering you a solution. I don't claim it's better than what you want, a new Windows version, but it is a working solution.

I've used the downloadable .iso to create a bootable USB flash drive many times. If it doesn't work, try another method, a different tool. Perhaps try Xboot, which is what I usually use and am using currently.

If that still doesn't work on your system, then simply burn it to CD-R since you said yourself the "iso that when burned to CD will function".

No offence, but then as a volunteer (and I volunteer on several BB's, moderate others), you should realize that those posts are directed to the official Acronis representatives on the BB, and not have answered.

It's not the programs to make the iso, but the iso itself, several different iso to usb programs report the iso is not in a bootable format to toss it onto the disk - isotousb, rufus (which does anything) ....

Regular Poster
Beiträge: 3

The isotousb tool is simple... and it "simply" does not work with the acronis iso. It appears to just do a basic file copy of the recovery folder from the iso and creates a boot folder with a boot img file. The result is unbootable and roughly half the size of the original rescue cd. There are hidden files required to make it function in the original rescue media that this tool is incapable of copying. Just create the nonfunctional usb media from within TI and look at all the files it places on the usb drive and compare that to what this isotousb joke puts on it. We did not purchase a full featured recovery solution to waste our time and energy using third party tools. I have been testing True Image 2014 Beta on one of the OS's in one of my systems and the usb media it created before the latest update had a splash screen that said Acronis True Image 2013. At first I thought that was funny. Now I find it infuriating.

I wonder if this may be your problem, not a problem with the .iso. Perhaps there's corruption occurring when you download. It works fine for me.

To test for you, I just now downloaded the latest 2013 Rescue Media .iso, build 6528 from my Acronis account. (It shows in your account as 6154, but it is in fact 6528.)
In two minutes I created a a bootable USB flash drive from it. I booted my PC with it, it works as it should.

Nope, have downloaded both ISO's fine ... Several times and from several locations.

In fact I'm surprised Joey doesn't mention the fact that with a new rescue media, they couldn't take a couple of minutes to accurately reflect its new build number, adding to the confusion of the masses. Wonderful example of CS there ....

I believe the overall tone of the thread already convey's what Acronis users are feeling rather effectively.

Any others out there know if Ghost has such issues at this time?

Hello Everyone,

tuttle, thank you for helping!

I'm really sorry to hear that you are dissatisfied with Acronis software and forwarded your feedback to management team.

We also apologize for the inconvenience caused by media build number under account. Unfortunately, there is a website limitation, that doesn't allow different build numbers for installation file and bootable media.

As for burning .iso file to usb, please use Xboot as suggested by tuttle.

If you have any issues with GPT recognition while using latest bootable media build 6528, please contact me personally. I'll forward info direct to our QA team.

Thank you.

I've tried Xboot, ISOtoUSB, and Rufus. I can't make a bootable USB that works in my Surface Pro with Windows 8. We really need this new v6528 to go "mainstream" so we can use TI2013 to create the Rescue Media. This must be fixed in TI2013 - I'm not buying TI2014 to get this fix.

Agreed, we do really need the new v6528 install media to go "mainstream".

I need to incorporate custom drivers in my ISO so the downloadable media is not suitable.

I will not buy TI2014 on principal if Acronis continue to ignore these problems.

Issuing "fixes" to correct problems (e.g. scheduler) with the intention of correcting build errors just confuses your users.

Anna I have sent you a few personal messages regarding the v6528 build, but you have chosen not respond.

When will we be able to download the "FIXED" build v6528?

ditto to 3Car, all programs fail.

Anna, seems you don't wish to acknowledge your customer base - we don't want to use bootable media, we want what we paid for, a program that within itself creates bootable media IN THIS CASE A USB STICK to boot from. If the bootable ISO is working then fix the issue with your media builder and release it for the main program already.

It's ok, you can ignore the masses, but bad news/service spreads so much more than good.

I'll use the external CD drive I have and the bootable media that works, but I believe that alternatives may abound from other sources that prefer to address their own internal issues rather than having customers go outside to other third party programs to solve shortcomings within the program they paid for. Especially if (and I'm sure most have stated) I would be told "Hey, this is fixed in TI2014". Poor form, and I would not buy into it.

Alternatives are a good temp fix, not the permanent solution and it seems that's what Acronis expects us to deal with.

That's truly sad.

Are you able to boot from any other (non-Acronis) USB flash drives? Perhaps this is not an issue with the True Image Rescue Media ISO, but with your setup.

I can make an Xboot bootable USB flash drive with the True Image Rescue Media ISO in about two minutes, and it works. I can boot my PC and many other PCs with it. Xboot can be a little fiddly at first, this tutorial might help you: http://dottech.org/20053/xboot-put-multiple-utilitieslinux-distrosdisc-…
and another one http://www.devicegadget.com/microsoft/windows-7-store-multiple-bootable…

But, it sounds as though your systems may not yet configured to allow booting from USB.

As I've stated repeatedly, I'm not dealing with the larger issue (of whether Acronis should issue a new Windows build of 2013). That's not within my power. Your repeated harping on it isn't helpful, we already know what you want. Several posts in this thread ask for help creating bootable USB, so that's what I'm responding to.

I'm offering solutions for creating a bootable USB flash drive. What I offer works consistently with the ATI Rescue Media. As I've said, if it's not bootable on your system, try other non-Acronis USBs as I suspect that they won't boot either.
