Really? I just upgraded from ADD 11 to 12 and now I get the interrupted install error. WTF?

  • Contacted Tech Support
  • Got latest builds (why I did not get the latest build when I purchesed 10 minutes earlier is beyond me): That did not work
  • Ran the clean tool: That did not work
  • Ran though a number of KBs to include 33449: That did not work
  • Killed every external service on my system to include AV: That did not work
  • Contacted Tech Support again
    • Support now wants me to
      • ftp log files
      • capture processes monitoring during install
      • take screenshots during install
      • make / record video during install

REALLY?!

I already have hours into troubleshooting your software and I don't have time to continue to troubleshoot your software. If there is not a fix - I want a refund!

Just had precisely the same experience - except I wasn't asked to provide a video. The support people seemed helpful but there is clearly an issue here and I FTPd everythign they asked for. They said the case would be "escalated". I now have ADD 11 and 12 and neither will work on my Windows 10 machne.

Yes, I found the request rather odd and I agree that support tries to be helpful. I am a software / hardware engineer and if I had asked one of my customers to shoot me a video of the issue - I don't think I would have them as a customer for very long. What it does tell me is the Acronis probably farms out their "Tier 1" support.

What really chaps me is I have used Acronis products for years and never had a problem till yesterday. Funny, I upgraded to True Image 2017 and had no issue installing it unlike ADD 12. I came over to ADD years ago after PartionMagic lost support. I have a feeling I may soon be on the hunt to replace ADD. It was ill thought out on my part to buy and try to install it without coming to the forums first. The up side is I did not open my mouth to my customers to install ADD 12 because I always like to go through new updates before a push to client production.

Honestly, after going through the KBs and Forums, I am astounded Acronis has allowed it to go on this long. I am following this closely. Please post back when and if you get a fix.

Dan:

Your problem sounds similar to the root cause of this related issue: https://forum.acronis.com/forum/129019

Because Acronis shares some of their features in common between programs, when you have more than one Acronis program installed then the order of installation matters. To work around this the older software must be installed first, followed by the newest.

Thanks for the reply Mark. Since I was upgrading both ATI and ADD, I had removed both from my system. As I recall, the clean utility also will "toast" both when run. When I tried to install ADD 12, I had no other Acronis software on my system. After spending hours working the issue with ADD 12, I finally called it quits and installed ATI 2017 with no problems. Both ATI and ADD were the latest builds provided by support yesterday. Just out of curiosity, I tried to install ADD 12 again after the ATI 2017 install to see if there was some change in the GAC or elsewhere - no luck. Thank you for the idea though.

As you say Dan - this issue has been around for a while now. With the amount of info that they will have been supplied with they must now know what causes the problem and be able to fix it. Come on ACRONIS SUPPORT - sort it!

Full marks to Acronis support. They came back with a couple of registry edits to remove Upgrade Codes. It worked!!  I wont post them here in case they are not right for your machine - but the keys begin with D28D4217. Check it out with support.

I only had the offending key at regpath 1 and 3. No other paths had the D28D4217... key. I am still in the same boat as I was before with the interrupted install error and I don't have time to keep trying to row it shore.  It is still not fixed!

Dan - your key path results were the same as mine.

Deletion of these keys followed by reboot did the trick:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UpgradeCodes\D28D42177ED71D74CA66249102E9978A
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\UpgradeCodes\D28D42177ED71D74CA66249102E9978A

Regardless of whether the key paths are the same or not, there are a number of other variables. I.e. 63 Tb, 64 Gb memory, i7 12core, water cooled system with 450 other programs installed for .NET, Android, Java, Python development, Animation, 3D Development, photograpy, multiple VMs etc... etc... etc... - none of which I have ever had an issue installing or uninstalling until I made the mistake of upgrading to ADD12. What ever Acronis did with the update, they made a real mess of it. Speaking of which, I am not going to wait much longer Acronis for you to figure out a fix.
