This is not the last volume of the back-up archive error & no item to display error

Am using Acronis 2009, build 9,796.

Made an image of my XP PC, called it XP, and via my network, put the image on my VISTA PC, under the User/Public folder. Then I moved the XP image to a folder named "XP Machine" on the C drive of the VISTA PC.

Had a need to restore, booted the XP machine with the TI boot CD, was going to restore the image to my XP machine, and as I searched via my network and found the folder "XP Machine", opened it and got the message "No items to display". Since that did not work, copied the XP image to the VISTA C drive, and when I try to restore from that, get the "This is not the last volume of the back-up archive" error, and cannot restore.

The only way I can restore is to go to the User/Public folder where the image was origionally saved, and then was able to restore sucessfully.

Is there an option/way to back-up and image and them move that image to a different folder/location and restore from the new location?
If I ever had to re-install my VISTA machine OS, then am concerned that I woule never be able to use that back-up image again.

Would appreciate any assistance with this.

regards...

RC

Hello Roman,

Without additional information I can’t be certain of the issue. However from what you have told me this may be the possible reasons of the issue.

1) Using Acronis True Image you can save and restore backup archives to and from shared folders. To make sure you can save to and restore from shared folders, we recommend setting special permissions as described in this article. Please set the permissions to the new folders "XP Machine" and to the folder on the VISTA C drive and see if the issue remains.

2) When you boot the system from Acronis Bootable Rescue Media, the program may fail to detect the archive created from within Windows. Therefore, to get the access to the archive please use Browse for backup button at the right upper corner of the Select backup to restore or manage window (Backup and restore -> Manage and restore).

Please let us know the results. If the issue remains, I will provide you with the instructions on how to troubleshoot the issue.

Please let me know if the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question.

Thank you.

Hi Oleg,

I have similar problem. I created the backup image saving the tib file to a network share. I used Acronis True Image Echo Enterprise Server Rescue Media Boot CD (v8.206) for creating the tib file. True Image was reported that the operation was finished successfully. The file size was 132.021.907.456 bytes. There wasn't any other files related to this tib file.

When I want to mount this image to my new pc through The Acronis True Image Echo Enterprise Server (v 8.206) , I take the message "This is not the last created volume of the backup archive. Please insert the last created volume to start working with this archive". When I press the "Next" button, I take the message "The selected file is not an Acronis True Image Echo Enterprise Server archive or the file is corrupted. Please, select another file"

I've been reproducing this case by using the latest versions of all products (True Image Echo Enterprise Server, True Image Enterprise Server, True Image Home 2010, True Image WorkStation eg.)

Do I have a chance to extract the image file with 3rd party solutions? Does Acronis provide repairing tool for corrupt files?

Hi, Oleg,

I have the same problem.

I backed up my HDD (3 partitions) and next day HDD died. I used Acronis True Image Home 2009 ENG, bootable CD, and external USB 500GB WD HDD. The backup procedure ended without errors. The image has 11.618.222.080 bytes.

After installing OS to new HDD I upgrade to Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Workstation Czech. I need my important data from the archive (2nd partition) and I try to open the archive file in Windows. But I take error message:
Code: 10 551 303(0xA10007)
Modul: C:\Program Files\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\mms.exe
Message: specified file not found

I try to recover data from archive using bootable CD (Acronis True Image Home 2009 ENG) and I take error message:
"Error while opening archive file. This is not the last volume of the backup archive."

I try to recover with bootable CD of Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Workstation CZ and I take the same error when I try to recover in Windows:
Code: 10 551 303(0xA10007)
Message: specified file not found

I tried to recovery with Acronis True Image Echo Enterprise Server Rescue Media Boot CD. I take the message "The selected file is not an Acronis True Image Echo Enterprise Server archive or the file is corrupted. Please, select another file".

I need the data very soon. Do I have a chance to extract the image file with 3rd party solutions? Does Acronis provide repairing tool for corrupt files?

Hello Mustafa Samet UCGUN and Oloushek,

Please accept my sincerest apologies for the delay but I will definitely assist you with resolving this issue.

The error message: "This is not the last volume of the backup archive" is a generic message and it can mean several things. There is a chain of incremental backups with 1 incremental missing along the way. It can also mean that the backup is corrupt.

Mustafa Samet UCGUN,

I can recommend going through the following article in our Knowledge Base, that explicitly talks about the inability to mount archives.

- Acronis True Image Cannot Mount Backup Archive

I would also recommend validating the backup and going through our Troubleshooting Guide for corrupt backups available here.

- Troubleshooting Issues with Corrupt Backups

Oloushek,

Have you tried recovering the backup from Windows with Acronis Backup and Recovery 10?

The error message: "The selected file is not an Acronis True Image Echo Enterprise Server archive or the file is corrupted" can either mean that the backup was created with an incompatible Acronis version or that the backup is corrupt. For example, if a backup was created with True Image Echo Enterprise Server and you are trying to restore with Acronis True Image Home, then it will fail with a similar error message.

I would also recommend going through the article that I mentioned above - Troubleshooting Issues with Corrupt Backups.

Unfortunately gentlemen, we do not have a utility at the moment to repair corrupt files. I suggest validating the backup first and then moving it to an internal hard drive to try and get files from it.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Same error message here, almost one year later, and on the very latest version of Acronis True Image and Windows 7 and True Image. I save my backup files on a Netgear Readynas Duo. Backing up is smooth, trying to "explore all versions" triggers the error above.

I believe I found the answer to this problem.

See my blog at
http://keyliner.blogspot.com/2010/12/acronis-problem-not-last-disk-in-b…

In summary:
(Acronis True Image Home 2010)
Especially after multiple DVD swaps, Acronis appears to forget where it should be looking for its files.

To solve the problem, click "Browse" and browse back to the same DVD.
Double-click the ".tib" file
Continue with the restore.

This appears to be a bug in the restore program. If you are just trying to restore a single file, or a small subset of files from DVD, the blog also discusses a better (but admittedly an odd way) to accomplish the restore with a lot less disk swapping.

The above solutions have not helped my case; "This is not the last volume of the backup archive" comes up when I try to mount the image or try to Convert acronis backup . In my case I backed up data from my computer running win 7 ultimate and chose to ignore notifications of damaged sectors in the process. I backed up my information into a new computer running win 7 home premium and since then I have never been able to open these files; what recommendations do you have? - By the way I have acronis home 2010. would I need to upgrade to 2011PLUS with the universal recover in order to open my files and programs?
