Hello,

While in the process of adding an Acronis virtual appliance to a vCenter/ESXi host I get the following errors:

NOTE: I'm specifying the IP of a VMWare ESXi host which is part of a vCenter. This host has a Standard ESXi 6.0 license.

TOL: Failed to execute the command. Adding vCenter Server/ESX(i) host '10.X.X.X' to the management server

Just in order to add more details...

When I start the process I see the appliance created at the ESXi host and I can even see what's going on with the console. Suddenly after loading the VM closes and is deleted from the host. At that moment is when the errors posted before appear.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Miriam,

The problem is that the appliance cannot connect to ESXi host via the virtual network it is connected to (the 10.x.x.x IP is unreachable from the appliance after it boots up). When configuring deployment from web console make sure you select proper virtual network and define correct IP settings to be used by appliance. See attached screen shots.

Also note that we recommend connecting appliances to vCenter rather than to individual ESXi hosts, since otherwise the VM migration and other vCenter-related activity may affect backups results. In other words if there is no objective reason to work with ESXi hosts directly, always configure them to connect to vCenter.

P.S. For troubleshooting purposes you can deploy appliance from .ovf template which is placed into C:\Program Files\Acronis\ESXAppliance folder on the machine where you have Acronis Backup 12 installed, and then configure it directly from vSphere console - in the appliance GUI you will see all the network settings and can troubleshoot network connectivity issues.

Thank you.

First I would like to thank you for your quick answer Vasily.

As expected you were right, changed the network configuration @ Settings tab and the appliance is up and running.

Thank you so much for your help.

Best regards.
