How to recover from OLD tib files

Dear all,

I take backups of my exchange 2010 databases [and mailboxes] every day that are saved in a centralized unmanaged vault (with a 7 days retention policy).

In the past, I moved some old tib files [ the files of a specific backup day  3 months ago],  from the folder of the centralized vault to another folder. Is it possible to restore data [for example mailboxes] from these old TIBs?

Any help, would be appreciated.

Kind regards,

Spyros

Hello Spyros,

Thank you for your posting! Yes, it should be possible, however in case you are using a backup scheme with dependant backups (incremental backups of backups of transaction logs), you will need to move the whole chain of dependant backups to the same location in order to restore. If moved backups are not detected, you can use Refresh button to refresh the list of archives.

Thank you,

Dear Ekaterina, thank you for your reply.  It still is not working.

We copied the OLD tib files back to their initial position, into the centralized unmanaged vault. We had made full backup in our exchange database, so the backup files package contains the following files with their capacity:

XXXX_bunch_192_rank_3_blob_4337EF4B-5F6D-4FDE-9303-70C38CA7A016a.tib (276 GBs)
XXXX_bunch_192_rank_1_meta.sqlite_176F7E17-E689-4F74-BAB5-811A36E5A9E8a.tib (192 KB)
XXXX_bunch_192_rank_2_meta.sqlite_F2220AA9-0A1E-4A65-9218-3D936BB2DD63a.tib (18 KB)
XXXX_bunch_192_rank_3_meta.sqlite_C8D35931-921D-4AB3-820F-D329981229C6a.tib (1.012 MB)
XXXX_bunch_192_rank_0_meta.sqlite_94AE1D9F-94F5-463B-B0F3-4CEC9450938D.tib (52 KB)

After moving the OLD tib files,  the above backup is not appeared in the archive view of the vault. The only we have is the list with the last 7 days backups.

After that, we also pressed "Catalog Now" but no results.

Hello Spyros,

Could you please recheck that all files are present in the directory according to this article. Cataloging will not help us to see newly moved backups, you will need to click on Refresh in the Archive-view of a personal or unmanaged vault ot re-index centralized managed vault to recreate the information about vault contents. I would also suggest trying to detect the archive under bootable media.

Thank you,
