Hi Rick,

It depends if you are using just wanting to protect Active Directory within the server image or if you are wanting to take advantage of the application aware backup method (Single-Pass Backup)

If you are simply wanting to protect the server including Active Directly a full server image will offer this protection and be included with both Agent and Agentless backups.

If you are wanting to use Single-Pass Backup to capture applications such as SQL, Exchange, Active Directory or Sharepoint please ensure you install the Agent for windows as well as Agent for 'APPLICATION NAME' inside the VM that needs protection as the Agent for Hyper-V or VMWare Virtual Appliance currently does not provide single-pass backup functionality.
