hi to all,

on all the Agents for vmware (virtual appliances) that we have deployed we have problems with time sync, after few days all the appliances clock is set some minutes forward. Is there a way to sync the appliances with an ntp server? With the Windows machines (console manager and Windows appliance) we havn't the problem because of course Windows can sync time with an ntp server. thank you in advice

Hi,

The time on appliances is synced with the time on the ESXi host they are deployed on. This is done via embedded VMware Tools which are running inside the appliances. First of all you should make sure that the NTP server is set up properly on the ESXi host side and this time should be properly synced with the appliance automatically.

Thank you.

thanks for the prompt reply,

if possible we prefer to use an unique centralized ntp server (we have only one ntp server in our environment); is there a tip to point the appliances to an ntp server of my choice?

Hi,

I'm afraid there is no such option to use a separate NTP server for time sync on appliance directly - currently it can only be picked up from the ESXi host time configuration (configured from vSphere client).

Thank you.
