I am stumped. Here is the scenario:
- ABR10 Virtual Edition build 11345
- Acronis and license server on single server on vlan 150 with access to vlan 151.
- ESX, vCenter and Acronis Virtual Appliances on vlan 151 which has access to all vlans (mentioned vlans b/c that is the only difference in my lab where I was successful).
- VM named BRCHDNS2 which is getting backed up is on vlan 150 with access to vlan 151.
- Centralized vault is just a local folder on d:\

I right click on the VM and do a backup and this is the error.....

Hello Anthony Lepore,

Thank you for your post. I will definitely help you with this.

According to the log, it looks like the Acronis Managed Machine Service is either stopped or it is crashing, that is why the backup task fails. The Acronis Managed Machine service is used to allow user manage the machine with Acronis Agent.

Does the backup fail immediately upon starting or it runs for some time and then stops?

On the machine where the Acronis Agent is installed, can you please check that the Acronis Managed Machine Service is started. Also, can you open the Windows task manager on the same machine, go to processes and check if the following process called mms.exe is blinking. If it is, it is possibly crashing.

I would really appreciate if you could check all this and get back to me so that I can advise you on the next course of action.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

OS: Window 2003 Server Standard R2
Backups saved to: a local HDD RAID
Acronis: Backup & Recovery 10 10.0.11639 (recently updated to try and fix the issue)

An error message does not pop-up toward the end of the backup, it simply just fails and errors.

Hello Harold,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for posting. I will do my best to assist you.

Unfortunately to get to the bottom of this issue I will need to look at the full log. Would you be kind enough to send me a private message with this report so that I can analyze the log. Also, please let me know if you are using any e-mail notifications and what are their exact settings. You can create one or two screenshots from the e-mail notifications menu.

Looking forward to hearing from you. Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Hey there Harold,

Sadly, I stumbled on a solution and it was most likely not the best way to go about it.

I updated the software with the newest hotfixes, deleted and recreated the job in question, then reset of my e-mail alerts.

In my case the issue stemmed from e-mail alerts for some odd reason fubaring because I used the same information and the error went away.

Hello Ricardo,

Thank you for your posting! The error message WMI 'ExecQuery' failed  means that the Agent had attempted to perform a Query via WMI tools and failed to do so.

The reason usually lies in corruption of the WMI repository in the Windows OS. To resolve the issue, you can rebuild the WMI repository using for example instructions listed here:
https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/askperf/2009/04/13/wmi-rebuilding-the-wmi-repository/

After the repository has been rebuilt, I would also recommend restarting Acronis services and re-attempting the backup.
A quick way to check whether WMI is up and running is to use msinfo32 - it should be able to collect all information in the report. If it doesn't, then it points out that issue with WMI still presents.
