Hi,

We have Acronis vmProtect 8 running but it stopped working for one machine (ESXi 4.1.0). All we get is the following error (in german):

Task 'all machines' fehlgeschlagen: 'Erstellen eines Backups fehlgeschlagen.
Zusätzliche Info:
--------------------
Fehlercode: 3
Module: 435
Zeileninfo: 555b5abba09501ce

Fehlercode: 122
Module: 83
Zeileninfo: 41aa269c0490617e

I already restarted vmProtect, checked filesystem usage, but now don't know what to do else.

Any idea, what's the problem? What is pool0? How can I fix this?

Hi Benjamin,

If the problem persists for 1 machine only and is not reproduced for other machines then it makes sense to try the following:

Create a separate backup task for this machine and run it. If it succeeds then the problem is likely related to particular backup task configuration, so it needs to be re-created. If backup still fails then the problem is with this machine registration in ESXi host internal infrastructure (some fields are missing in description) and a possible way to fix the problem is to export this VM in an .ovf template and then re-import it back to ESXi and use this imported VM in production.

Thank you.

Thanks for your answer! I already removed and recreated the backup task, so this is not the problem. The backup task should backup all machines. It does not even start with backing up the first machine, so I don't know which machine I should re-import.

Hi Benjamin,

Thank you for the clarifications. It looks like the problem is with addressing the group element which you selected on the 1st step of the backup wizard - it might be the entire host or a resource pool which misses some identifier. Please try the following: Create a new backup task and add VMs one by one on the 1st step of the wizard, i.e. do _not_ select entire ESXi host (as dynamic group of VMs), but move VMs to the right section individually. It makes sense to try that for 1 VM and if it works then add other VMs via editing the task.

Thank you.

Seems that this really "solves" the problem. But since I want that machines are automatically added to the Backup, that's not really a solution.

But: This reminded me of another problem we have with this ESXI host. Adding or removing resource pools on that server also ends in an error, so now I assume there is some kind of a relation between those two problems.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Benjamin,

Yes, the problem with resource pool creation on this host indeed might be the root cause of the original backup issue. The group elements in the backup tasks are addressed using vSphere indentifiers ("InstanceUUID" property in particular which can be checked via Object Browser from https://[ESXi_host_IP]/mob/ URL), so if this identifier cannot be retrieved/resolved (which seems to be the case when resource pool creation fails) then it fails with the error you quoted in your original post.

Thank you.
