Problems with restoring from TIB file

Thread needs solution

We have a problem with restoring from a tib file. When i point at the folder where the tib file is, it doesnt show any recovery points. I know the backup has been running a long time without any problems.

(ive also taken a new fresh backup, to see if that worked, and this is showing restorepoints when i points at this folder)

I've also tried True image to mount the TIB file, but its not able to mount it. Cant even Validate it either.

Other info: ESXi 5.1, VMprotect v8, taking backup to a synology NAS.

Is there any other way to export the files from this TIB file? Or restore the entire VM/disks?
Or even repair the TIB file.

Thnx

Erlend

Hi Roy,

Typically such problems are related to particular NAS specifics, and I've seen similar problems with Synology NASes in particular. Usually updating the firmware of the NAS device helps. The quick workaround (and also it helps to localize the problem) is to move the archive files (.tib) from NAS to some normal Windows-based share and perform recovery from there. The archives themselves should be valid.

Thank you.

Hi, i copied out the tib and the rest of the files to an windows pc, then i shared the folder, and tried to add this to the Acronis.
Still not showing up. When i point to the share it states: "The selected location does not contain backups of virtual machines". But i know the 800GB TIB file is in that folder.

And as i said earlier, i tried to take another backup with the Acronis, to the same synology, and that backup is showing up restorepoints from that other folder.

This is the last sucsessful backup email:

Hi Roy,

Have you tried moving _only_ OS_server.TIB file to another folder on NAS? You mentioned that there were some other files in the location which you copied as well and the problem may be caused by some naming conflicts (for example if there was OS_server1.TIB or similar file). This all is of course assuming that new backups in different folder on the same Synology NAS are accessed properly and the issue is with this particular .tib file only (in other words that the problem is unrelated to NAS). If this doesn't help and you need to recover from this particular archive, please contact our support team for further assistance. Also for troubleshooting it makes sense to run "Archive" validation for this particular file from Actions->Validate to see if it is recognized as archive or not.

Thank you.

Yes, the only files that are in the same folder is 2x B7B714EF.....LCK files, meta_info.lck and aperation.lck. I moved this files to another folder, but still, when i point to this folder, it doesnt see any recovery points or anything about a TIB file.

Tried the validation, and pointed it directly to the folder(location option), and it got this error msg (could not use the archive option as it doesnt show the TIB file when browsing to that location):

(the network location is shared from a windows machine, and everyone have full rights on the file)

Task 'Validation of Network backups' failed: 'Failed to validate the backup archives.

Hi Roy,

Looks like the archive is indeed corrupted and thus not valid for recovery, so it needs to be re-created (i.e. the problem is unrelated to NAS). If you need some data to be restored from this particular archive, please contact our support team for assistance - I must warn you that likely it won't be a fast process and will require several debug sessions to retrieve the data unfortunately.

Thank you.
