Linux Management server - Only root can log in

Thread needs solution

I am evaluating AB 12.5 using a Linux Management server installed atop Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.  I do not want to access the management console using the systems root account but simply adding other unix users via Settings/Administrators does not allow them to log into the management console.  What am I missing?

Hi!

Did you add a new user using the following steps?

  1. On the machine running the management server, as the root user, open the file /etc/security/acronisagent.conf with a text editor.
  2. In this file, type the user names that you added as the management server administrators, one per line.
  3. Save and close the file.

Could you attach the full text of the error message you are getting upon login?

Thank you!

Ah.  No I did not.  That worked.  And I did find this in the documentation under "Adding Administrators".

But, if you don't mind my saying so, it seems to me that the web interface should be able to take care of this obviously redundant step on Linux systems.  Having the Acronis Management back-end update a simple text file when an administrator is added via the web interface can't possibly be all that difficult to implement.

Now educated on this "feature", I will be fine.  But for the sake of future bumblers like me that don't fully read the documentation and simply trust the web interface, I hope this gets someones attention in an upcoming release.

Thank you for educating me, Ms. Surkova.

Thanks for the update / feedback, glad to know that adjusting acronisagent.conf did the trick for you!
Yep, adding administrators through the interface would be much more convenient, I'll pass your feedback to the product team.

Hello,

I Have problem adding user for my Acronis Cyber Protect 15. I Have created new user on linux appliances, then edit acronisagents.conf . Then after I edit the file, I cannot login using root or the user I have created. Root user stuck on login without error, new user error with access denied. How to restore the root access?

Please Help :(

Thanks and regards,

Hello Asadulloh,

Welcome to Acronis forums!

Please make sure that you have not removed the root account from acronisagents.conf. For diagnostic purposes, please test the acronisagents.conf with the only root account.

Otherwise, please reboot the appliance.
