Backup does not work properly on two devices.

Hello.

Please contact us because it is not backed up on my customer's equipment.

• OS version: CentOS Linux release 7.4.1708 (Core)
• Agent Version

. B device: 12.5.13400

A This is a device error (failure) message.
(Since the Korean is translated into English, it may be different from the actual English error message.)

Hello Lemoning,

According to our internal sources, such issues are usually caused by some incompatibility between Linux machine and SMB host: most common cause is the protocol version, but other parameters can affect SMB access as well.

Troubleshooting

1. Make sure that the system meets requirements https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/AcronisBackup_12.5/i...

2. Check asamba log (located in the root folder of the acroinfo archive) in order to find SMB protocol version which was used and other details of mounting:

  • In Acronis Cyber Backup 12.5 U4 and later: asamba.log can be found at /var/log/asamba/asamba.log
  • For earlier builds: enable asamba logging as described in this KB article, reproduce the error and find the log at /tmp/asamba.log

Asamba.log contains entries like

Asamba tries to mount the shared folder by using SMB protocol versions from upper version, one by one, until a suitable version is accepted

In the example above, 3.1.1 and 3.1 versions were rejected and the shared folder was mounted with SMB v. 3.02

Asamba.log also shows error messages in case of any issue with SMB mounting.
 

3. Try to mount the share on the Agent machine manually:

  • mount -t cifs -o username=user_name //server_name/share_name /mnt/

    e.g. mount -t cifs -o username=DOMAIN\administrator //server/backups /mnt/

Was manual mount with cifs successful?

  • NO:  If manual mount does not work, there is an issue within customer's environment that needs to be resolved. If mounting via system tools is not possible, Acronis Cyber Backup will not be able to access the share either. Advise the customer to troubleshoot the issue with cifs mount: possible causes include firewalls blocking access, obsolete firmware, network issues, etc.

    After the issue is resolved and manual mount works, reattempt the backup with Acronis Cyber Backup again.

  • YES, the share was mounted  using mount.cifs:

    • If manual mount works after providing additional parameters (e.g. a specific SMB version), modify MMS configuration on the Agent machine to add the necessary options as described below (see *How to set SMB version or mount options in Agent for Linux), and reattempt the backup.

    • If manual mount worked without providing additional parameters, check cat /proc/mounts output after mounting the share and check what options were used for mounting. Compare to mounting options in asamba.log and try to find the options that affected mounting.

If some suitable version was found, it can be set in the Agent config in the following way:

You need to add a line

export ASAMBA_MOUNT_OPTS=vers=X.X

 or export ASAMBA_MOUNT_OPTS=<parameters> if you need to pass other parameters to Asamba

to the script /usr/sbin/acronis_mms after "ulimit" lines  in the same way as described in 38017: Acronis Linux Products: Collecting Asamba Verbose Logs in Linux and MacOS  

where X.X - SMB version

For example, for SMB v. 2.0:

export ASAMBA_MOUNT_OPTS=vers=2.0

In case manually mounting the folder works fine (with SMB version shown in asamba log or "cat /proc/mounts" output; with or without additional parameters) but the issue persists the case has to be escalated to the expert team (please contact Acronis support for that)

I am in trouble while checking the information you have given me so I will contact you.

I have opened the "How to set SMB version or mount options in Agent for Linux" document.
And that page required login.
But I couldn't log in. (I entered my Acronis ID and password, but it says it is wrong. I also clicked the password reset button, but the password reset email does not arrive.)

I solved the SMB related problem by changing the SMB protocol.
(The same error occurred at my other customer, so I applied the SMB protocol change method.)
But now I get another error on the same agent.

Both these errors indicate that your vault could not be accessed.

Please share with us the asamba log (located in the root folder of the acroinfo archive) in order to find SMB protocol version which was used and other details of mounting:

  • In Acronis Cyber Backup 12.5 U4 and later: asamba.log can be found at /var/log/asamba/asamba.log
