Save only latest differential backup to tape in Acronis 12.5

Hi everybody, we create full backups over the weekend which are written to two tapes on monday. The rest of the week (monday evening till friday evening) we create differential backups. Now i created a replication job for the differential backups to write the latest backups to tape, but i want them on one tape. My problem is Acronis saves the full backup and the latest differential backup, which consumes two tapes, which is a problem. Is there an option to save only the latest differential backup, because the fulls are already saved on monday? Kind regards and thanks in advance!

Hello Tappsy,

welcome to Acronis forums!

I recommend that you specify the custom rule for tape sets (please follow that link for the instructions), e.g. for only full backups and for differentials in order to organize and separate them.

Dear Maria,

thanks for your answer, but i think that link doesn't help with the problem.

I want Acronis just to replicate the latest differential backups during the week (Tuesday till Friday), because all the full backups are already saved on monday. But Acronis always saves the latest differential backup AND the corresponding full backup, which is too much data during the week for one tape and it is not needed.

Is there a solution for that?

Kind regards

Hello Tappsy.

I suggest that you select Only last backup in Replication plan details:

Dear Maria,

this is what i tried. But it didn't work, Acronis always took a full backup corresponding to the differential backup.

I think this was, because the full backup was not saved to tape yet. This week we replicated all the full backups from the weekend on monday and started a job today which is replicating "only the last backup". This seems to work now, when the full backup is replicated before.

So this problem solved itself.

Thanks for your help and kind regards

Hello Tappsy,

thank you for sharing the outcome.

We are glad that the issue is solved now.

The entire Acronis archive (a full + differentials/incrementals) should reside in one backup locations (e.g. tapes). Thus, an archive could not be divided for storing e.g. full backups locally and differentials on tapes. However, full and differential backups could be physically located on different tapes within one backup location (we recommend using  tape sets for separating backup types).
