Initial seed for Backup Replication

Thread needs solution

Hey there,

we are using ABP 15 and we use a second storage location on an external NAS drive for our backups.

We now had a crash in the local NAS and had to setup the RAID from scratch.

So currently the second storage location is completely empty.

So from our point of view the question is:
How can we create an initial seed?

Can we simply copy the data from the first storage location to the second and the replication in the plans work with these data?

Or is it mandatory to do this via replication plans or the tasks in the backup plans?

Thanks in advance
S.

Hello Sven!

If you simply copy past the backups to the new location the backups will fail as they are programmed to be executed on the original storage.

You can put the backups there and edit the backup plan and when editing re-add the location ( search for it and re-add it ).

If the issue persists, feel free to contact our support so we can help you solving the issue https://kb.acronis.com/content/8153

Hope this helps!

Okay.

It is abolutely clear, that I must edit the plan ro pouint to the correct new location.

But to sum up:
The initial seed for the second storage location can done with a 1:1 copy&paste with the data in the first location as source, correct?

Hello Sven. Could you please specify what do you mean by initial seed? Because we have several products and a feature with that name. If you are talking about this ( https://kb.acronis.com/content/62998 ), no , copy past won't work.

If you are talking about a simple task where the NAS had issues and you want to continue the task re-adding the backups there, it may work or not depending on the integrity of the data ( if there is corruption for example, and with a NAS can happen easily and you won't be able ). So you can give it a try and editing the backup plan / re-adding the location in the console to check it.

I would advise you to contact our support because this may need a session/call to check in detail the situation . https://kb.acronis.com/content/8153

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the details.
It is not the first point you asked.

It is a simple local task:

- Backup Plans used a NAS as second storage location
- this NAS crashed and I had to replace the disks

Now the task is: how can we reconstruct the data on the NAS (the second storage location) as easy as possible,
And there the idea was:

- just copy it
- add the new folder as storage location and adjust the plans
- run a validation on these files

The expecation was:
As the backup files are validated and the plan uses the files for the next backups when the plan is initiated everything schould run.

Is there really the need of contacting the support?
My experience with support:
- within 2 weeks the demand logs, details and remote access and the result in the most cases was "well, you must try, we cannot give you a detailled how-to" if I wanted to know a procedure and if there were real problems the outcome was "reinstall the tool"....

Well. Not really satisfying for a product that wants to be a professional tool.

Hello Sven!

If the plan is what you described that should work.

Please try it and let me know the results.

Thanks in advance!
