MVP APIPE Builder Tool

Thread needs solution

Hey MVP team,

Thanks for this WONDERFUL TOOL! It saved my butt this week. I needed to restore a complete harddrive (3 partitions) for the BOOT drive for MS. Your TI include Tools did not work since I have the x58 with the ICH10R ACHI, non raid setup controller and even the Linux version of the tools hung up on the Loading, Please wait.... Error.

So again thanks for the tool that works. Now for my current question. I have run the MVP APIPEBuilder tool on my laptop (Lenovo P53) and the X58 and I get these "cannot find" and "unable to access" messages on the Lenovo runs, but not the X58.

It SEEMS to work. It completes but I want to ensure it not really broken. It is after the System Scan and the Select your version of tool sections.

What can I do to help troubleshoot? This is the screen copy of the actual message and I have uploaded the logs from 4 runs as I played with different options of the creation tool.

Michael,

Glad to hear that the tool worked for you.  I suspect that you elected to have System Driver files added to the build of log 21.35.42,  I suspect the errors you see are related to that but not sure just how.  At the end of your post we see

" Please select one of the following options."

What are the options offered?

The error messages you see are coming from a section of the script that is defining variables to be used in the script. That explains why you see the "Not Found" designation for the ATI and DD version numbers. I'm a little surprised you see errors here and then the remainder of the script seems to be working properly. I can't explain why you're getting the errors only on one computer. However, I wouldn't worry as long as the media boots and the programs are running properly.

Hey all,

To be clear this is FAILING to create a usable Acronis tool USB.

It boots to the RE environment but FAILS on "winpesh1.ini" empty error. Nothing launches and the Acronis Software is NOT there to even start. I can run diskpart and the normal RE tools, but NO acronis or extra software.

Here is the full text of the session and attached the log file.

Can you tell me, or show me the code that is getting those not found, or pipe does not exist so I can figure out what it is looking for? Access implies SECURITY. Do I need to change OWNERSHIP or some other extra file/directory settings on this unzipped hierarchy with W10's security pickiness?

find: unable to access "/n": The system cannot find the file specified.
find: unable to access "/v": The system cannot find the file specified.
find: unable to access "": The system cannot find the file specified.
The process tried to write to a nonexistent pipe.

I downloaded a FRESH .zip from Google Cloud source, made sure the file was not "locked" because it was from an unknown source. Extracted to the ROOT directory on the D; drive. All the files extracted with 7z.

Extracted the actual RE.wim from my W10 RESTORE disk backup of the partition mounted as a VHD volume and given a letter and permissions granted to copy it. This was copied into the WIMRE x 64 directory.

It appears that actual Acronis software is not being copied.

Here is the full script screen text.

There is probably some kind of permissions/ownership problem in your Windows C: drive that is blocking the script from reading the information it is trying to get.

I moved the create to the D drive to avoid the whole C drive special security of W10 and how it locks the C drive down.

So any hint WHICH directories on C to check the permissions of to resolve this?

I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY need the MVP recover USB drive for this computer without raid, with the special NVIDIA and other specific hardware drivers.

The other one I created that worked and actually restored was for an old x58, Intel ICH10R with raid and no where near the drivers I need for this specific computer.

Michael, I would suggest trying a new run using the MVP Custom PE Builder without adding in any extra features like Wi-Fi, drivers etc, so that you can narrow down what exactly is giving rise to the errors.

What version of Acronis True Image do you have installed on this computer?

Note: the MVP builder script does not work with ACPHO due to the change in all the program paths!

Have you redirected any system paths to a different drive in the computer?

Moving to the D: drive will not help.

You should build from the computer that works and add the drivers needed for the computer that doesn't work in the Drivers_Custom\x64 folder.

I checked all the permission of the known involved directories and set them the same. I saw something about duplicate directories and I know 7Zip extracts versus copies is different so it could have been that. I downloaded the MVP on another computer and brought over the zip file to this computer and 7zip'd it here.

I know W10 does NOT like that and BLOCKS files and software if not downloaded directly onto the machine. That most likely corrupted the permissions or files somewhere in the process.

**** MY SOLUTION? ******

What I did was copy all the Driver information from the failing MVP directory (collected while trying to run it) and put them as CUSTOM drivers for the MVP directory on the computer that successfully generates the DVD and USB Stick that fixed my original problem on that computer.

This was when I found out the included restore software did not work and I needed this MVP software to actually restore a full partition copy that I installed the MVP on that computer and generated the DVD and Stick that worked on that machine with RAID (ICH10R) and AMD/ATI specific drivers.

With the custom drivers added to that other systems MVP directory, the USB created this way WORKS on the computer I need a restore USB Stick for (No raid, no AMD/ATI, NVMe)! No find errors during the create process.

I can boot the second computer using the USB drive and the correct drivers loaded. All my specific video and hard drives and SSD's were found and available.

This works because my version of W10 are all the same and probably because the MVP tool will work on any RE.wim environment.

This is what I did before I saw your message. It worked!!!

Thanks for the solution. You must have sent it to my brain via the ether... lol..

I am happy now. I have a Bootable USB and DVD for my two i7 Gigabyte X58 chipset computers and my P53 laptop now.

I can rebuilt full boot disk partitions images if needed onto empty new drives for booting.

This is the solution I usually found works best in most cases of a disk failure, a really bad update or configuration, or splitting raid boot drives.

Thanks All!
