Can Disk Director 12 convert a GPT drive to MBR?

My Disk Director 11 can’t convert a GPT drive to MBR. It says the partition is in use. (Booted from a boot CD with UEFI and secure boot turned off and set to legacy.)

Before I buy it can Disk Director 12 do this? Any better options?

Bear in mind that DD12 does not support GPT nor UEFI boot. However if it is installed on a MBR drive system then it will convert a GPT drive to MBR and vice versa, just follow the instructions.

I have performed this task with ATI2015 using 'Add New Disk'.

Okay, I am going to ask a stupid (?) question, what is a GPT drive VS. a MBR drive? I have a new 1TB drive in my PC (the other one crashed) and I had to redo my partitions and restore all my data using True Image 2015.

Now that I upgraded to Win10, I now see a selection of "Operating Systems" which include Windows 10, then Windows on volumes 5, 6 and 7 plus one just labeled as Windows. Is this something to do with the DD12 compatibility?

Best to point you to http://www.howtogeek.com/193669/whats-the-difference-between-gpt-and-mb… which should explain differences better than I could.

I am surprised you didn't become aware of MBR and GPT when you fitted a new drive in your PC as it would have come up with a choice initially.

I don't understand your second paragraph. Win10 comprises 3 partitions -100MB System Reserved - Operating System "C" - 450MB Unnamed or Local Volume used for recovery I think. I have all three backed up. Another NTFS partition could be created which I use for general data and that could be backed up too but I don't use Acronis to do that as it would add to backup and recovery time.
