"Possible ransomware detected" from Audacity.exe

I'm in the middle of working with a respected recording/editing program called Audacity and got a "possible ransomware detected" message, with a list of 16 'affected files'.  The last thing in the world I want is to receive ransomware, but Audacity is such a well-established program that I can't imagine how it could be responsible for smuggling ransomware in. Is there any way I can establish whether the threat is real or not?

Hello Gareth,

I'd suggest blocking the suspicious process for a while and then running a full antivirus scan to ensure that there is not any malware infection involved here. If no threat detected, add the app to the whitelist https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/AcronisRansomwareProtection/index.html#38019.html

You may also want to consider using VirusTotal.com online service for checking files https://kb.acronis.com/node/62189
