Surface Pro 4 - Cannot reconize Partitions - using USB boot drive - create via SNAP Deploy 5

When booting with USB drive - using ext USB hub or Microsoft Docking station - Will not see the Surface Pro 4 Partitions. I am trying to create an image.

I have checked for latest version of snap deploy 5 and according to the software is up to date. 5.0.1.660 - which is installed on the remote pc - via small networkwork - Setup as 192.168.1.x and the MS Surface Pro - 192.16.1.x. using a switch inbetween the pc and the surface.

Note also the Top cover keyboard will not work - had  to use a USB keyboard when booting with the USB drive.

If you have any suggestions please be as detailed as possible - appreciate all of your help.

Note - I have successfully created and restored the image on 2 other pc's and also a ext USB drive attache to pc, which tells me that the USB drive is functioning.

Possible driver issues - need to create a WINPE drive ? - any detailed assistance would help.

NVME drive support is in 1666 - check your PM for download.

As far as the type-cover though, that would require winpe and you injecting those drivers.  However WinPE is limited as it does not have the stand-a-lone deployment option either so I try to stick to the Linux Media which does have this.  The default media is linux and has no drivers for Surface Pro's and probably never will though.  The work-a-round is to use a USB hub and keyboard/mouse as you you have found.

Dear Bobbo,

I'm trying to image a Surface Pro 4 and Snap Deploy 5 tells me that it can't find any hard drives. Can I get a link to Snap Deploy 5 Beta v1666 too? Thank you in advance!

Hi Bobbo,

Could I please get the link to version 1666 of Acronis Snap Deploy 5. I have the same issue with the SP 4's and I'm hoping it will resolve my issue as well.

Thanks.

Hi Pmasselli.  I've sent you the link via PM.  1666 works with the Surface Pro 4's.

Do you think the 1666 will work with Surfacebooks as well?

Yes, pretty sure. It's really the nvme hard drive and latest Intel NICs that need the updated drivers in 1666 to be seen. 1666 works with Surface PRO 4 so should work here too (touchscreen and trackpad perhaps not but you can use USB keyboard and mouse if need be).

I have updated to 1666 and am trying to image a Surface Book and am still getting the no disk drive found error.  Anyone have any thoughts?

I have not had a chance to use a Surface Book. I suspect it is using RAID in the bios as the SATA mode instead of AHCI because of the NVME PCIE hard drive.  If you can set the bios sata mode to AHCI (assuming a single drive setup), this should be a work-a-round.

If not, then you'll want to build WinPE rescue media instead and be sure to add the latest IRST drivers in the build.

Hi Bobbo,

Is this new build a solution for Acronis not seeing the network interfaces with Surface Pro 4 as well?

Yes. However, WinPE is still recommended for sp's though as sp4 is completely Windows but Acronis default media is Linux. Also, sp4 has an nvme pcie hard drive in RAID so WinPE allows you to add the IRST drivers.

Hello All - a newer build 1690 was updated by Slava today with better driver support (same features as before though).

- I suspect that SP4's will still need the WinPE, but would be interesting if someone could test the default Linux media on it anyway.
