[CRITICAL] 100% CPU usage from Acronis background processes

After a scheduled backup, my system often gets 100% CPU usage from acronis services (Acronis scheduler, TIB mounter and a few others). The only way to stop this is to end all the tasks in the windows task manager. I recently upgraded to Windows 10 Pro. Multiple machines have this same problem with Acronis. Please fix.

I haven't yet had a chance to see if behavior is the same with shecduled backups to NAS or to internal HDD.
I've also had this same issue after a scheduled backup to an internal HD. So network or local drive backup doesn't make any difference.

Tagging onto this. Something odd happening on my win10 64 bit as well today.
A backup to local QNAP NAS that normally takes minutes to do is struggling and Task Manager is showing Acronis VSS COM server executable running at about 18%. It's taking about 17 minutes to back up nothing.
All very odd and some bizarre crashes that haven't been pinpointed yet.

This threat has now been opened from more than 7 days and no one from Technical Support has offered any insight.
There is no point in documenting issues if no one is looking into it or at least acknowledging the threads posted.
As of today, I am still experiences the error I have described in my previous message.
In addition to that:
- The backing processes are often failing.
- I am also experiencing backups that take forever to complete (if they sucessfuly complete) when it should be a fast process. Apparently same issue as described by Barry in his last message.

Since installing the "Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3093266)" I don't seem to have this issue anymore. (on 3 different PC's)
I did have an unrelated issue with the automatic backup cleaning process failing, but that was fixed by reinstalling acronis.

Hi Bucky, Thanks for your imput.
I saw an improvement for a few days but cannot point to what may have helped or prevent the issue from occuring.
I too have installed KB3093266 cumulative update on October, 3rd. But problem still remains.

Hi All,
When you go to do a New Backup, what exactly do you do? Describe the procedure.
By describing the procedure, you might see what is wrong.

Hi,
If you do have concrete example(s) of settings combinations that should be avoided to prevent the error described in this thread, please share them with the rest of us. If that is the case, then there’s a bug in ATI 2016 that should be addressed by technical support.
Otherwise I don’t see how your backup settings can produce a 100% CPU usage by Acronis processes after a scheduled backup has been completed and no other backup is waiting next in line. I use ATI since 2012 and my backup plans have always been the same. Only until ATI 2016 + Win10 I experience this issue.

I have the same problem in 10 PCs with Windows 10. Were you able to fix it? Thank you very much.

Hi All,
For me, in all my Acronis True Image Installations, I have Non-stop Backup Services Disabled as I always do a Full Backup Scheme, as oppose to Incremental. If you ever need to restore, takes about 20 minutes.
I set my Options to Max Compression.
Also New version of Acronis True Image 2016 has been released, Build 6581, on October 26, 2016.

I can't speak to the behavior some of you are experiencing. However, if you aren't using some of these services, disable them and see if that helps. I regularly disable NSB (afcdpsrv) and the new mobile services (mobile_backup_server and mobile_backup_status_server) in 2017 as I have no intention of ever using them. If you don't use the family dashboard (I think I've used it once or twice in 3 years - mmsminisrv), you can kill that one too. If you don't use the sync feature, feel free to kill that one as well (syncagentsrv). the only one that should really stay active is the scheduler service. If you only run backups manually though, you can probably kill that one off as well (I always leave it, so can't say from experience how it impacts the rest of the application if it's always disabled).
I have a base script you can use to not just stop and/start services but also (and/or) set them to/from disabled and automatic. Just add :: in front of any lines you want to comment out or put them in if you want to prevent that part of the script from working. Save the .txt as a .bat and then run it once. Of course, you can manually do this in services as well, but perhaps this will be easier for some.

Upgraded to 2017 version last night on most currently updated Win 10 64-bit machine; Acronis True Image 2017 consumes 100% CPU on all cores and I haven't even initiated a backup. Ran continuously for 12+ hours. BTW, these are not background processes. They're right out in front consuming everything.
Had to disable. Access to SSDs is going crazy. Makes the rest of the machine so sluggish that it takes 30 seconds to "hear" a mouse click. I had to disable the application and all services at Startup to gain useful control of the machine. Services were set to either "delayed startup" or automatic with "Normal" priority.
2016 product version worked properly.
Why wouldn't the most current build be the one first available when downloading from Acronis?
Next step: dump the product entirely? Wasted many times the upgrade cost troubleshooting this mess already.
Any help available for this very serious problem?

Didrik, welcome to these user forums.
I would recommend opening a Support case with Acronis Support for this issue - all users of 2016 & 2017 versions now get upto 2 years support.
Next, if you have upgraded from previous versions to get to ATIH 2016 then again to 2017, I would recommend making a clean start by uninstalling all Acronis software, then running the Acronis Cleanup Tool as Administrator (link below in my signature). Restart the computer then do a clean install of the latest build 5554 version of ATIH 2017 - download this from your Acronis account web page and ensure that the checksum matches with the downloaded file.

Hi @ Didrik ,
You posted for help with Acronis True Image 2017 in the Acronis True Image 2016 Forum instead of in Acronis True Image 2017 Forum.

same problem windows 10 64 bit. updated acronis from 2016 to 2017. I can stop the services, but when the computer wakes from sleep, bang 99% cpu and the mobil services are burning through the cpu usage. see picture with task manager.

I suggest opeing a support request - you will have to log into your account. It may be a good idea to provide in Application Feedback (make sure the attached system report at the bottom of the feedback dialouge is ticked).

Hi @ ken mccomish ,
Do you use a Mobile Smart Cell Phone with Acronis? If not, why not simply disable the Service in Services?
I have Mobile Services Disabled. I have Nonstop Backup also disabled.
I only do Full Backup Schemes. Nothing else.

I also have mobile services disabled as I don't use them. If not being used, go ahead and disable them. If you are using them, the fix is in the current NG version, but I would recommend holding off for the standard 2017 update if you don't plan on paying for the NG subscription prices when it comes time to renew next year (if you have a subscription at all). We're told the standard (the version we're used to) update should be here within a month (give or take). In the meantime, disable any unused Acronis services as you see fit. I only have the scheduler service running on the NG version and it backs up my PC just fine like that and that's all I need it to do.
Updated scripts are available that you can download and run (or customize as you see fit). Scripts are available on the MVP Google Drive for download: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B8uZDIFmupY7Njl3VGpxblZnZUk
If you want bare minimum services - other than backup and scheduler, you can use my own start and stop scripts (attached) - download and rename from .txt file extension to .bat file extension. Right click and "run as administrator" to ensure you have the proper rights to enable/disable services as necessary. Again, please be aware that these disable most features of Acronis (sync, mobile backup, nonstop backup, NG protection) - all it leaves is scheduler service for scheduled backups. You can modify as you see fit though... putting :: in front of a line comments it out (disables it). Removing :: from a line enables it.

I disabled the mobile services, it's all good now. thanks

Ken, if you haven't already done so, please submit a Support Case for this issue or at a minimum submit Feedback using the Feedback Tool in the Application to report this performance issue and that disabling the mobile services has relieved this.
The key point in reporting this is that the mobile services should not have this performance impact, especially if you had wanted to use the mobile backup functions provided by the product and thus couldn't do so with the services disabled.
