Graham, welcome to these public User Forums.

Sorry but we need more information here?

What version / build of Acronis True Image are you using here?  This is shown in the Account page of most recent versions of the application.

What type of backup are you trying to create?
Is this a Disks & Partitions backup of your main Windows OS disk drive or
Is this a Files & Folders backup of selected folders that include those for MS Flight Simulator?

Graham, thanks for confirming your ATI 2017 version / build.

Files & Folders backups will have issues with locked program files when encountered so if using this method, the way to avoid issues with MS Flight Simulator would be to deselect the program folders for this from the Source selection of the task.

The recommended method of backing up locked program files / folders is by creating a disk backup where the Microsoft VSS snapshot service is used to capture all the data, including the Windows OS programs etc.

I do not backup any program files and have now found where the packet file for the program is located and tried unchecking that but the backup still stops when it arrives at MSFS2020.

I can’t find any other file on Drives C or D that I could uncheck.

Graham, can you attach a copy of the ti_demon log file for the backup failure from the C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs folder (please zip the log to preserve the original log file name), as that should hold more information on what is stopping the backup operation.

Graham, the problem folder path is:

Path: D:/WindowsApps/Microsoft.FlightSimulator_1.9.5.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe

Do you have this app open when running the backup task?  If yes, then have you tried with it shutdown (the app)?

The most recent ti_demon log shows the following lines:

23/10/2020 02:55:41:056 PM 19556 E00040019: Failed to back up file or folder 'Microsoft.FlightSimulator_1.9.5.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe'. It may be blocked by another application.
Failed to back up the file (folder). (0x40019)
Path = "\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy20\WindowsApps\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_1.9.5.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe",

The file cannot be accessed by the system (0xFFF0)
code = 80070780),

23/10/2020 02:55:45:035 PM 19556 W00170019: Error 0x170019: The item was skipped.

The "\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy20\ path in the above error message shows that Microsoft VSS is also involved here to create snapshot data for the backup task.

Destination:  "G:\Backup C+D_inc_b16_s2_v1_CC7C1A3E-96F8-4B0E-8E01-F63A8EB6C47B.tib"

23/10/2020 03:06:02:043 PM 19556 E01EF0024: Error 0x1ef0024: Failed to open folder Q:\ during consolidation. Ensure that the device containing the backup is properly connected.

Referring to one of your earlier backup logs with the same script identifier, you have been changing the destination for this task at an earlier time!

03/10/2019 03:02:44:087 PM 7132 W01E50023: Error 0x1e50023: The specified file does not exist: Q:\TESTING BACKUP_full_b5_s1_v1.tib.

This suggests that information about the Q: destination has been left behind in the internal database used by ATI which can then lead to these type of additional errors!

I would recommend deselecting the apps folder shown at the top of this post, and also downloading / running the Acronis VSS Doctor standalone tool to ensure there are no VSS issues involved.
