User stopped backup message

Whenever I back up I get a message at the end saying 'backup was stopped by user', but I didn't stop it. What does this mean, and must it be fixed?

How do I get the MVP log viewer? I clicked on link at end of your post, and it just brings up another thread, which says MVP log viewer is attached, but I can't find where.

Gregory, see https://forum.acronis.com/system/files/forum/2017/02/128710/mvp_log_viewer.zip which is shown at the bottom of the first post from the link in my signature (after all the screen shots).

Well, I got the log, and here are the entries, which don't mean much to me. Can someione understand them?

Gregory, the key message that I see in the snippet of the log that you posted is:
Cannot access the path: D:\My backups\toshiba_full_b1_s1_v11.tib
Make sure that this path is accessible and that your backup drive hasn't been given a different drive letter by Windows because you have another USB device connected?

You can also get this message if there is insufficient space on the drive to which the backup is being saved.

Drive D: is accessible and has the correct subdirectory. It also has enough space for the backup.

The drive may be losing power during the copy or validation process. Is this a USB powered drive? If so, try connecting to a back USB port if you're using a pc. If you have a USB hub, don't use it for now. If you have a laptop and no other USB Pitts a powered hub may actually help, but hubs can be finicky so best not to use them if you can help it. No joke here, I can't use my front port for any spinning drive because it frequently disconnects when in use for long read or write sessions. Ssds are fine because of the lower power draw, but no go for a spinner for me. My back ports provide more USB power and don't disconnect.
Also, the micro USB 3 port on some externals can be finicky too. I fave a 1tb toshiba and the cable has to be perfectly straight or it breaks connection on the hard drive side.
finally, try updating the source and destination of your backup job. Even if it appears to be exactly the same, it won't hurt to update it to be certain.

Thank you. That appears to be the problem, because if I straighten the USB cable, the backup will finish successfully, most of the time. This is a notebook, so there are no USB ports on the back, and the drive doesn't have a separate power connection. If I a careful with the cable, the backup works.
Thanks again.

Greg, sounds like time to invest in a new USB cable for the drive as you may have a fractured wire within the sheaving of the cable if it gives intermittent results like this.

Thanks, actually I have two drives and cables, both have the same problem. One of them is only a few days old, so I am suspecting the power or data stream from the notebook is marginal. In any case, I know where to look for a solution and that is a big help.

Greg, I would recommend getting a powered USB Hub to connect inbetween your drives and the notebook, then you can remove the power drain from the notebook and let the powered Hub provide what is needed.

Yes, I agree that a power USB 3/3.1 hub is a good idea.

I hate the micro usb 3.0 ports on external drives. I've used a few different ones and have had more trouble with them, than not. The connections are often weak (bad design that doesn't make a solid connection to the drive), especially over time if you typically leave the cable plugged in and wrap the cord around the drive for storage. I've stopped buying pre-made usb devices. I find it more reliable (usually) to get a nice, tool-less external case with a a full-size USB port and pop in an old laptop 2.5" drive or, better yet, an SSD if you've got one (or the funds to go for it).
A powered hub may help here, but not if it's the micro usb port that is not making a good connection unless the pins are "juuuuuust right". some electrical tape might look ugly, but might help keep the connection "tight" if you can use it to pull the cable to the connector straight and then secure the tape around the drive enclosure.
