Windows 10 Build 1803 - Backup fiails due to problem with OneDrive folder - KB61362 Workaround

Acronis has issued KB6132 dealing with this issue. Unfortunately it is a workaround rather than a solution.
"Solution
To resolve the issue, do the following:
- In OneDrive Settings disable the option Save space and download files as you use them
- Wait until all files in OneDrive are syncronized to the computer. Note that synchronization may take considerable time if there are many files to process.
- Create a new backup task and run the backup. You can also continue to use existing backup task but please be aware that recovery from old backup slices will not be possible."
I would not call this a solution, it is a workaround that assumes you device has sufficient storage to store all files. My ancient HP Windows Table (has Window 10 Home on it but not latest build) would not have sufficient storage to do this. Also the second sentence of point 3 is unclear - can you do a disk restore, I cannot see why not. However trying to do a file recovery may be a different matter.

Steve, many thanks for providing this information. My preliminary testing indicates that the suggested work-around does not work for me.
Update I can confirm that it is not working for me. Not impressed!

Ian, just hit this one on my Insiders build of Win 10 where MS decided that I should use the OneDrive Files on Demand feature without my agreement!
I was testing another issue and using my OneDrive folder as source and got this exact problem - turned off Files on Demand, waited for all files to synchronise back to the local folder, then re-ran the OneDrive backup task and all worked fine!

Hi Steve, as far as I can work out I have the correct settings for OneDrive (see above). There is no corresponding setting for OneDrive for Business (which I discovered yesterday had not been properly installed on either of the systems on which I was having problems.
The error messages you provide are different to the ones I am getting (for cloud backup).

You will notice that it restarts the process three times before apparently aborting. I will check to see if there is a completed backup or nothing happened

Ian, this issue looks to mainly affect Cloud or network based backup tasks more than local drive ones from what I have read.
One observation, I have never allowed OneDrive (or Dropbox, Box etc) to store its files as sub-folders of C:/Users[myuseraccount]/ - I have always put these folders into the root of another partition, so my backup tasks show the Source as being From: E:\OneDrive\

Steve, as I do not use OneDrive I have not bothered to shift the location. In the past I have relocated DropBox but for some reason I did not do so when I did my last system rebuild. I have not checked to see if there is an issue when backing up to NAS. The system I am using at the moment is not backed up to the NAS as local + cloud has been sufficient. There is very little data on the system that is not also on my main system.

Hello
I had the same problem with Win10 ver 1803 and ATI. I solved the problem on a PC and a Laptop. I uninstalled Microsoft OneDrive for Business and then reinstalled it. The backup with ATI is perfect again ?
