Backups failing. A fatal error occurred while reading the snapshot

Two days ago my primary backup failed. Last night my secondary backup failed. When I try to determine what is going on I see the message, "A fatal error occurred while reading the snapshot"

These are backups that have worked fine for months then, without any changes on my part, they no longer work.

I have tried what I can (not much) and I reviewed these forums with no success.

I created logs/system info but looking at it is overwhelming for me.

Do any of you have any pointers that might help me resolved this problem?

Thank you,

Rich

P.S. I accidentally did not include the entire error message.  It is:

A fatal error occurred while reading the snapshot. The snapshot was canceled by the system. See system logs for details.

P.P.S.  More info I forgot to include:

My two backups are:

1. Full backup of internal drives C and D to an external drive.

2. Full backup of internal drive C to internal drive D.

System: Windows 10, 64 bit.

Richard, the snapshot data is created by the Microsoft VSS service and stored in unused areas of the drives being backed up, so this type of fatal error in reading snapshot data is most often associated with drive issues such as bad sectors etc.

Download a copy of the Acronis VSS Doctor tool and run this as Administrator to see what issues that will flag up for you.  Let the tool repair / resolve any issues it offers to do for you.

Beyond that, running either CHKDSK or using dedicated drive diagnostic tools from the maker would be a further recommendation.

I downloaded and ran the VSS Doctor.  It seems to have resolved the issue.

Thank you so much for the help.
