Hello Everyone,

thank you for your patience! We're ready to share more information on the upcoming changes!

Why there is no beta program this year?

The beta program for Acronis True Image will be moved to early 2022. We are 100% committed to constantly improve our products to combat the ever-growing threats so your valuable data is protected.

While in September we will focus on the rebranding of the product as well as general improvements in our cybersecurity features, new operating system support, and bug fixes, in early 2022 we plan to reveal a brand-new look-and-feel of Acronis True Image focusing on improvements in our core functionalities and the overall user experience. Stay tuned!

Thanks for the info, Ekatrina.

Given that we're at least six months away, can we assume another couple or so interim releases? Or is all effort directed towards the new thing?

Sorry but telling users to 'Stay tuned!' is of no value in helping those same users who have been greatly disappointed in ATI 2021 to want to wait yet more months to learn what Acronis intend to do to address their concerns!

Is Support for ATI 2021 being extended into 2022?

Will any 'improvements in our core functionalities and the overall user experience' be brought into ATI 2021 to resolve some of the significant issues that users have encountered?  Or is Acronis going to do as they did for the serious deficiencies of ATI 2020 and expect users to purchase the resolutions via buying the next new version of ATI ??

Do these 'improvements and user experience' include allowing users to purchase perpetual licenses for ATI without being forced into the Acronis subscription model complete with all the unwanted Cyber Protection features?

Now Acronis have a great opportunity to make True Image great again. Please don´t repeat the chaos when the same happened last time, iow with the advent of the new user interface in True Image 2015. Make it great this time.

My personal top fixes i would love to see in the next version:

  • Fix the date and time format in the interface.
For me the date format in Windows is YYYY-MM-DD with a 24-hour clock. Yet True Image fails to show me that and give me DD-MM-YYYY and a 12 hour clock. The solution provided in KB 63214 is just a workaround that will affect other apps negatively. In depth description, examples and screen dumps are provided in this thread: https://forum.acronis.com/forum/acronis-true-image-2018-forum/change-da…

  • Provide more options for task naming using such as DATE, TIME etc that users currently can only achieve by manually editing the task Script .TIB.TIS files.
This is still supported "under the hood" and disappeared when True Image 2015 was released. Now when doing a "brand-new look-and-feel" it´s time to bring this useful feature back.

  • Bring back the ability to view Log files directly in the ATI GUI
This is another feature that got dropped when True Image 2015 was releaed. Again, now when doing a brand-new look-and-feel it´s time to bring this useful feature back.

  • Make True Image 64-bit
Many competitors offer both 32-bit and 64-bit applications. Take this opportunity now when "brand-new look-and-feel of Acronis True Image focusing on improvements in our core functionalities and the overall user experience" to make a 64-bit version of True Image. Porting apps to 64-bit is a great thing and all kind of slugginesh are either gone or heavily reduced. The overall performance is enhanced as well.

  • Add a right click menu for Acronis anti virus
If Windows Defender is enabled i can right click on a file i just downloaded and choose to scan it with Defender. When True Image 2021 is installed it disables Defender per default but do not offer an option for the end user to right click on a downloaded file, or any other file, to scan the file with Acronis anti virus. Please add.

I will be looking forward to the next version. I hope the installer will have an option to "opt-out" of the AV module. As Roger A mentioned, please make it a true 64bit. It has been long enough already. "Look and feel" is a welcome addition but make it simpler. When its out I will test it again versus the competition. I almost forgot (if I may), the mobile version is wifi based only. The usb cable is there. Why no capability to use it? There are android backup apps who uses both the usb cable and wifi. Just a thought there for the devs.

Cheers!

Reading between the lines of this quite Orwellian announcement, it seems clear to me that the only users whose experience will be improved are those in "the majority of...customers [who] now overwhelmingly prefer subscriptions for procuring critical technologies...[to] ensure they have up-to-the-minute protection against the latest cyberthreats" (quoted from Acronis).

I switched to a competitor product, and have been very happy with my new backup & imaging solution, in no small part because the vendor's  impressive responsiveness to user feedback.

This is not going to happen as the whole focus of Acronis marketing seems to be "lets prey on peoples fears of them getting a virus and losing their data", so I predict the 2022 version will be even worse and will put another nail in the coffin of True Image.

I'll stick with the older version of True Image as despite what people (shills?) say. The x64 WinPE is future proof for quite a number of years, so why update to a worse product?

...despite what people (shills?) say...

I'm not sure if the above ad hominem was directed at me specifically, but in case it was, I can assure you that I have no relationship to any backup software vendor other than being a happy customer of one and an unhappy customer of another.  I used to be very gung-ho about ATI, which saved be from a potentially catastrophic hard drive crash about two decades ago, and it was a no-brainer for me to purchase an ATI license for my new Windows 10 laptop when ATI2021 first came out last year (and while it was still available as a perpetual license).

Unfortunately, it quickly became clear that ATI is no longer the product it used to be.  I found the new interface clunky, performance slow, loss of support for organizing backup files using Explorer, and CPU resources hogged by unnecessary processes.  Spending some time on this forum made it clear that improvements were not likely to occur, but that Acronis was doubling down on their new model of bundling bloatware and extracting revenue from their customer base by eliminating perpetual licenses.

If you have access to a recent version of pre-cyberprotection/pre-tibx ATI, and if you are happy relying on a product that is no longer being actively developed, then great -- roll back to ATI 2018 or whatever.  In my case, this was not an option, since my most recent ATI license prior to my ATI2021 purchase is for Version 8.0, which will not run on Windows 10.

For these reasons (and because I prefer to use a product that is actively supported and not stagnant), I started exploring alternative options about 4 months ago, and thanks to recommendations from trusted members and MVPs on this forum, I found a solution and finally switched over in June (not even a year after first upgrading to ATI2021).

Because I know from first-hand experience the stress and uncertainty of choosing a critical software solution (backup & imaging) when one has familiarity with only a single product that is not longer a viable option (ATI), and because I was very grateful to have guidance and advice from trusted forum members when selecting alternatives to ATI2021, I have continued to occasionally post on these boards as a way of "paying it forward" to other ATI users who find themselves forced to abandon this sinking ship.

I started the forum topic Reflecting on a Post-ATI World early on in my search for alternatives, as a way to gather information to aid my decision and to have a consolidated collection of advice from users who have experience with alternative products.  If you have any first-hand knowledge of "a worse product" than ATI2021 (or even ATI2018), I would encourage you to post in that thread to summarize your experience with the competitor offering.

Ich fühle mich hier vollkommen Missverstanden von Acronis 2021&2022.

Gibt es nun ein Acronis Programm ohne dieses Sicherheitssuite & Cybersicherheit

I feel completely misunderstood by Acronis 2021 & 2022 here.

Is there now an Acronis program without this security & cybersecurity suite

No!  Acronis have not announced anything officially yet but are unlikely to produce anything which doesn't come bundled with all the new security / cyber protect features!

As a subscription customer, I no longer see a future and now use an alternative backup solution.

Logitech21   -- If you can recommend your alternative backup solution to other disappointed Acronis customers, please consider posting a summary of your experience with that product in the forum topic Reflecting on a Post-ATI World.  This will help ATI users who are looking for other options.

I highlighted the text phrase "...focusing on improvements in our core functionalities" and it would be great if someone from Acronis could define what "core functionalities" actually means year 2022. We know that core functionalities has been backup, but what can be defined as "core functionalities" for ATI2022, backup or antivirus?

So please define "core functionalities" today so we know what to expect. :)

Acronis True Image is a great application for backups and it is sad to see the development we have seen the last years. It reminds me of WinZip and CCleaner that has gone from it´s original core functions that all liked to totally destroyed by bloating today. It´s fun for the developers, but both WinZip and CCleaner are apps that no one longer recommends because they have lost focus on their original core functions and has added so much features no one need/use.

That´s why i would like to see a definition of what "core functions" means for Acronis when it comes to the future of True Image.

@Roger A,
I understood that with the Acronis core function that it would be integrated into cybersecurity on an ongoing basis.

My view; So only an annual payment of the ongoing licence comes into play.

Hello Acronis and Ekaterina,

I would be interested in Alpha or Beta Testing Acronis 2022 when that begins.  I have tested just about every operating system put out by Microsoft (Consumer and Enterprise) since 1996.(Back when it was actually hard to get into testing). I also test for Apple on my M1 based Mac.  So if you think your company could benefit from an older experienced Tester/ Insider/Flighter please feel free to post or email me.  I didn’t keep every OS disk, but included photos of a couple.

Thank you

I think the answer has just been revealed:

Acronis True Image is now
Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office

Hello,

We’re writing so you’re the first to know about an exciting change – we’re renaming Acronis True Image to Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office!

Why the change? When Acronis True Image launched in 2003, it was the first personal disk imaging software. We named it so people knew they would get a true image of their data.

But as the challenges of protecting data evolved, Acronis True Image evolved too. With its unique integration of backup and anti-malware technology, it does so much more now than simply back up your data that it’s time its name reflects that fact.

That’s why, with the next month’s launch of the new version, we’re renaming it Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office.

You don’t need to take any action: It’s the same high-performing solution you know and trust. You simply need to get used to a new name that lets you know you’ve got more than just backup software.

As always. Тhanks for choosing Acronis.

The Acronis Team

Ammy B

But how they are launching new version without holding Beta version???

This was explained in Ekaterina's post above.  Unless something has changed since she posted on July 19, this September release is not actually a new version, it is just a rebranding of ATI 2021 (which may additionally include "general improvements in our cybersecurity features, new operating system support, and bug fixes", similar to the way that periodic updates have been already been released for ATI 2021).

But this rebranding is a harbinger of things to come in ATI 2022 ACPHO 2022, the beta release of which is supposed to be made available in "early 2022".

To me it looks like little more than a name change (at this stage). Lots of words, not much real information!

It would be helpful if Acronis provided more information on the direction they will be taking with the "new" product.

My take:  ACPHO will be marketed and developed as a subscription-based anti-malware/anti-ransomware solution, with imaging functionality primarily included as an add-on feature to provide a backstop against ransomware attacks.
