Acronis True Image gets stuck when calculating time for backup

I'm back with TI.......having swallowed a large slice of humble pie I have reluctantly returned to TI purely and simply because Easus takes too damned long to do it's stuff :(
A full restore (about 1Tb hard drive plus 250G SSD) took Easus pretty much a whole day to complete whereas TI did the job in well under 2 hours !.... Hmmmm....I seem to be caught between the devil and the deep blue sea
Are there any other contenders out there for reliable, easy to use, cheap (i.e. home user rather than a corporate company) and quick backup software ?

Stop "Volume Shadow Copy" service. It will fix hanging in "Calculating time remaining"

Duy - there are a lot of free and paid tools. Honestly, none of them is perfect and all have their won qwerks. I use Acronis as my main one because if has been the most reliable for me, but also use about 5 others to test with and have "secondary backups". Since I'm an MVP, I'm not going to post competitor products, but if you're looking for altneratives (free or paid), Google the best free backup products. There is one at the top that lists quite a few of them - just keep in mind that free products often have limited features/capabilities compared to their paid counterparts, but you might find something suitable to your needs. Personally, I'd still recommend you keep using Acronis in addition to one of the others so you can diversify your backups a bit more and give yourself some different recovery options - just in case.

For me, the issue was gpt partition names causing VSS to choke and spit XML errors seen in Event Viewer. I had migrated to an SSD using EaseUS, and the partition names must have gotten screwed up. I used gparted live to rename the partitions to something else, and VSS started working after a reboot.

So I was having the problem of taking a long time to calculate remaining time and then it would go to queued. I started troubleshooting steps in the threads and it seemed like the culprit was vss. I checked the scripts for vss and couldn't find any mention of it. I finally found a thread that said to disable vss in services, but when I checked it was set to manual start. I started vss and backups are now running. So vss, or lack of, was the culprit. I'll report back if fails again, but I've gotten further than I ever have before so fingers crossed.

Going through forums years back all the way up to now, it looks like this has been a problem for Acronis since forever. As far as I can tell, there is no real solution. VSS Doctor does not fix it, neither does recommended registry fixes nor setting anti-virus to ignore Acronis.

A solution for me was to have a dual boot system. Two win 10's. Each can back up the other's c: drive, since they can't do their own.

Hello Gleason,
The issue has various causes, the most frequent being Microsoft VSS-related problems (for more details please refer to https://kb.acronis.com/content/61979). If VSS Doctor did not find any problem with VSS, you can check Windows event log for issues with environment, that could be causing the issue, as per https://kb.acronis.com/content/61335
If the issue is still unresolved, we'd recommend raising a support ticket for investigation to find the actual root cause.
