Cannot restore backup to the same partition.

Here's the situation.

Acronis true image 2014.
I backed up my new dell laptop's 1TB drive.  everything went just fine.

I deleted the partitions from the drive in an attempt to clone some other data to it.  That failed with a cryptic hex code which I can't seem to locate anywhere.

Ok.  so now I want to restore from the original backup (back to the way it was..  So I run the same software on the same computer that backed it up.

I start the recovery and switch to disk mode.

It lists the model under source.
However  It says cannot recover the selected disk (even though its the same disk)

It doesn't tell me why.   Does anyone have any clues to what is happening here?

What type of backup image did you create?  Hopefully, this was a Disk & Partitions backup and not a Files & Folders one!

What filesystem was involved in the data you tried to clone to the laptop?  Was this Windows or some other OS?

How are you doing this?  You should be using the Acronis bootable Rescue Media for the recovery by booting the laptop from this media using the same BIOS mode as was used by Windows.

See KB 59877: Acronis True Image: how to distinguish between UEFI and Legacy BIOS boot modes of Acronis Bootable Media - for help with the BIOS mode.

You may need to fully wipe the laptop 1TB drive to remove any residue from your clone attempt.
