Failed to read data from the disk

Failed to read data from the disk. Failed to read data from sector "..." of hard disk "1". Failed to read the snapshot. CRC Error.
I've run "error checking" which I think is the same ask chkdsk.
Please help as I am on the road and desperately need to run a backup. I ran a backup before I got on the road 2 months ago and it worked fine. The backup drive has othewise been sitting around unused so not sure what the issues are. My HDD is solid state but again, the backup worked fine a while ago.
I'm running Windows 7 Pro X64
George

George,
Which version and build of True Image are you using?
I am using True Image Home 2011
I'm assuming your problem begins when running the program in Windows, are you able to or have you tried running a backup using the recovery CD?
Yes, Windows 7 X64 Pro. I have not tried using the recovery CD. I tried creating an image but it would not make my USB into boot media for some reason.
Is this a complete disk/partition or files and folders backup?
Complete partition backup
When you ran chkdsk did you use the /r switch ? Run this on both your laptop and the external drive. If you are checking your C: partition Windows will require a reboot to run chkdsk /r in DOS mode.
Will try it again but It did not find any errors the first time around.
If the drive is connected via USB have you tried using a different port, I'm assuming you are on the road with a laptop so are you using a docking station to connect the drive?
I will try a different USB port, but I used the same port the last time but will try that.
If you have any card readers or external hubs attached remove them.
No, nothing attached.
Other than that it is possible that the SNAPAPI driver has become corrupted, have any new programs or MS updates occurred between the last known good image?
Yes, I updated the OS. Where do I make sure the SNAPAPI driver is correct?

Which build, the latest 6696?

What exactly did you try to do here, install the recovery media onto a USB drive? Have you made an actual CD version?
Complete partition backup
Is this your main partition (c:\), if it is what happens if you select the complete disk to image?
As far as chkdsk is concerned it is most important that you run it with the /R switch, you need to run it from a command prompt.
Is the original image you made still on the external drive and if so, does it validate or as validate takes a long time, can you explore or mount it?
Yes, I updated the OS. Where do I make sure the SNAPAPI driver is correct?
It is possible a Windows update broke something. You can't actually make sure the SNAPAPI drive is OK, all you can do is either try a repair install of TIH or download and install the latest SNAPAPI driver from the Acronis website. However, this would be the last thing to try.
The link to the SNAPAPI download is here make sure you download the correct one which is version 586 for TIH2011.
I won't be able to respond to you after this post, until later tomorrow.

George,
The forum software currently has a problem. Would you mind editing the first quote in post #2 above and remove the private email address put there by a program malfunction. Thanks.

I don't have a CD Drive. I only have USB sticks. I tried to boot off a USB drive so that I can recover in case my main HDD ever has issues but the boot drive the software created wouldn't boot.

I will try that next

got it. Doing it now, will take a while to go through all of my drives.

No, ATIH wouldn't recognize the previous image so I deleted it thinking I could just make a new copy but haven't been able to since.

It will take me a while to go through all of the options anyways.

Using the /r flag and backing up the whole drive instead of individual partitions fixed the issue. Not sure what was wrong but I can backup now. Thx.

Brilliant, thanks for letting us know.

On a clear disk you can seek forever

/r allows/instructs chkdsk to try to relocate any bad sectors it finds. It rereads them until it's confident it has thedata correctly and then writes it to a knew location and marks the old location as a bad sector.
