TI2013 by Acronis 6514 bootable disc does not detect hard drives

- Log in to post comments

I usually use YUMI to make Multiboot-USB-Sticks ( very easy to use) - but have not tried the TIH2013 Build6528-ISO on a machine with UEFI ( my small NB having a DVD-drive and I used that - success with UEFI/GPT, cloning Windows8-HDD to a larger one on UEFI/GPT-machine).
But I may try that ISO with Yumi and UEFI/GPT during the next days - it is too d**** hot here and I have to change the HDD ( at present I have BIOS-CSM/MBR inside the NB because I do not need and do not want to have UEFI)
So please bear with me - I will try for those with systems with UEFI/GPT without optical drive.
Maybe Yumi will be able to make the USB-drive boot to TIH - it is Up-To-Date - which Xboot does not seem to be.
If I am having success, I hope that may help some of you here..........

Which build of TI2013 will correct this problem for all users and when will it be published?
Thank You.
It will be called Acronis True Image 2014, and you will have to pay for it.
This scam is going on since TI 2009, so what did you expect?

I have tried everything possible (using Acronis) to make something that will boot from an UEFI enabled machine. Used countless suggestions and wasted countless CD's. All have failed
- Log in to post comments

Did you try on your Sony-machine?
Did you try with the new Build 6528-CD?
Did you try to boot using Boot-menue ( on most machines you get that with F12 at start)?
- Log in to post comments

yes, the machine is a Sony SVS1512Z9EB
no, according to the main site, Build 6514 is the latest. However, during testing I was given access to a few different version of CD. Since I deleted them all, I don't know what they were.
I have to use the Assist button on mine to get to the boot menu. On some CD's just get the message no operating system, on others just a black screen. The only thing that works is to disable the UEFI and then start from the CD

I don't think the issue of UEFI would be solved by use of a different bootable-USB-creator. Xboot can create bootable USB drives, as can YUMI, but if UEFI is blocking the boot and/or the ISO doesn't support UEFI, then that's the issue and not the choice of bootable-USB-creator. If you tried booting from CD-R with the ISO, you'd get the same result.

@tuttle: Thank you - when pressing F12 at start I get the Bootmenu and choosing the CD/DVD-drive ( UEFI) the CD is booting ( Build 6528)
So it should boot from USB as well.
@Erich Seidl:
no, according to the main site, Build 6514 is the latest"
wrong - at present it is Build6528, although there it says 6514
have a look at the filesize - Build 6528 has 386MB, Build 6514 has 389MB!

Thanks for the report of success booting from the Rescue Media ISO on CD.
krabbe wrote:So it should boot from USB as well.
Yes, if your system is set to allow boot from USB. I've asked this a couple of times of the people having trouble, but they have not answered:
Are you able to boot from any other (non-Acronis) USB flash drives? If not, then perhaps this is not an issue with the True Image Rescue Media ISO, but with your setup.
And yes, you're absolutely right that these folks should use build 6528, which is the latest Rescue Media ISO.
Its help menu identifies it as build 6528, it's just that the web site is incorrect.

"if your system is set to allow boot from USB" it is - but I have to press F12 to get to the Bootmenu to be able to boot UEFI/CD-DVD-USB
Most machines with UEFI Show the Bootmenu with F12 - but not all - some need to press other keys.........

The ISO does support uefi, and the usb media created within True Image 2013 will boot on uefi machines but gpt disk are not visible. The problem with using the iso on a flash drive with xboot and every other usb utility is that they are emulators and they don't emulate a uefi machine. So the iso (which is uefi and bios compatible) when used with xboot is only going to boot on a bios mbr machine which wouldn't have needed xboot in the first place.
@krabbe The only way xboot and the other utilities are going to work is if secure boot and uefi is disabled. If anyone knows of a usb utility that includes a uefi loader then that would be an acceptable solution.
@tuttle I have had no trouble booting from Windows 8 uefi installation media on usb, or from the uefi usb media created from within True Image. All newer machines are going to be configured to boot from usb, but you have to have a uefi boot loader on the usb drive. Xboot and every other utility that has been offered on this forum do not create a uefi boot loader.
The problem with the original build 5551 rescue media is that it didn't have an official microsoft signature so secure boot had to be disabled to make it boot on uefi machines. The patch fixed this and then build 6514 broke it again and introduced a new issue that made gpt disks invisible from the rescue media. No usb utility is going to have an official microsoft signature or a uefi loader so the fact that the professional acronis support team (again not tuttle) recomends this is a joke.

Thank you
Do you understand German? If so - please have a look at this
http://www.heise.de/ct/hotline/UEFI-Windows-Setup-vom-USB-Stick-1267520…
( how to get the necessary UEFI bootloader to USB-drive)
Perhaps that might help with WinPE rescue media build 5551 with patch or build 6528 ( but how th get the last?) ( would not work with Linux disk)? Might not help with build 6514 since the PE-media seem to be unable to recognize GPT.........
As far as I know you might disable SecureBoot without disabling UEFI to boot UEFI/GPT
SecureBoot and UEFI are real PITA and my head is Swimming!

Have tried now to be quite sure - and that seems to be true - the USB-drive will not boot ( used Yumi and put TIH2013 b6528-ISO on it). (with SecureBoot disabled, UEFI enabled , F12, Bootmenu)
Same ISO burned with ImgBurm on a CD - CD is booting with SecureBoot disabled, UEFI enabled ( F12, Bootmenu).

Since acronis doesn't want to give us the solution we all paid for, I'm going back to the patched build 5551 on my uefi gpt system. It seems to be the most complete solution at the moment. I've been using acronis since True Image 11, but I believe they have lost interest in customer satisfaction.

As TIH2012 Build 7133 works fine ( TIH2013 did NOT!, PITA) on my loved Samsung NB/Windows7 Pro x64 ( BIOS/MBR, SSD and HDD) and TIH2013 Build6514 works fine on my small Toshiba NB Windows 8 Pro x64 ( BIOS/CSM/MBR, SSD - former HDD with UEFI/GPT) I do not Need other products.
I do not know, if I Need TIH2014 though..............

The topic was originally about "TI2013 by Acronis 6514 bootable disc does not detect hard drives".
While there is definitely an issue about booting from USB in UEFI mode, etc, my issue is still related to the original thread topic.
I can boot from USB by disabling secure boot etc amd am happy to do so, but after booting Acronis still wont recognize my GPT hard drive, unless I drop back to build 5551.
I am also a long term TI user, through many releases, but will not be continuing with this product if Acronis does not provide a resolution on TI2013.
They will not get more of my cash to "upgrade" to TI2014 to fix such an elementary issue as this.

The original Topic was about RescueDisk - not USB........so why do you not download it from your Acronis-account? The ISO there is Build 6528 ( though shown 6514 - 386MB!) an does recognize GPT HDD..................................................................

Have you tried build 6528? It reportedly fixes the GPT recognition issue.

Tuttle and Krabbe,
Thanks for your responses.
Just to clarify my situation:
1. TI2013 Build 6514 on Win 8 Pro 64 bit with UEFI / GPT
2. Rescue Media created on build 6514, boots under UEFI , but does not see GPT disk.
3. Have now downloaded the misnamed Bootable Media from my account and can confirm it is Build 6528.
4. If I burn the 6528 ISO directly to CD and boot under UEFI, it does see the GPT disks.
5. Like everyone else, the issue is now that Acronis have not provided a way to create a bootable USB for the Secured Boot / UEFI / GPT environment. I have tried Xboot and Yumi and both do not work.
I had to borrow a portable DVD drive to test this out, as I operate in a totally CD/DVD less environment. For that reason, the current situation is not an ongoing solution for me and is not practical when traveling if there is a need to recover.
Just to finish off, my main desktop (Win 8 / UEFI / MBR) and my home server (WHS2011 / MBR) are fine, but my preferred backup solution is no longer valid for the new Win 8 Laptops / Ultrabooks and that is why I am concerned about the lack of progress from Acronis in resolving this common issue.

Why would anyone use Windows Secure Boot is baffling me? At least with desktop PCs you can enable UEFI/GPT AND disable Secure boot. In laptops/tablets I don't know, perhaps some manufacturers have not separate settings for both of them. Secure Boot is just PITA in environments where you have to change, add or replace hardware. In customer installations we disable it always to NOT drive our service in lots of troubles e.g. when updating drivers or components.
I'm referring to this Microsoft article: Windows 8 with Secure Boot enabled may no longer boot after installing new hardware

sanxu,
You need to recreate a new recovery CD but it must be created from the ISO download file inside your account. This iso file will be different and more up to date than the one created from you new 2013 installation.
Download the ISO file and burn the ISO file as an image and it will be come a new TI Recovery CD. The build number will be the same but the actual CD will differ from the one created from within the installed program.

If you actually boot from the CD created this way, you will see that the Build number is correctly reflected as 6528. It is just incorrect on the website under your account.

I have to agree, it seems we will be required to upgrade to 2014 for compliance with UEFI. For myself I think I'll put my money on other backup software for my notebook that is UEFI. They have been UEFI compliant since 2012. Up until this year I have been very happy with THI, they really dropped the ball in 2012 with the online back up and then not getting on top of UEFI standard until 2014.

You will be disappointed if you think UEFI compliance has been fixed in 2014 - it hasn't. Installed it on my Vaio, created the rescue disk and tried to boot from if with UEFI enabled. All I get is a black screen, which is exactly the same as before

Hello Vienna-Sydney,
as far as I understood you are experiencing difficulties while booting your Sony Vaio from Acronis bootable media.
But we checked the scenario in our labs and bootable media worked perfectly.
1) Could you please check if the created media works on other machines?
2) If you have Secure Boot option enabled, please disable it and check, if the machine can be booted correctly (it helps us to localize the issue).
Please share the results with me.
Thank you in advance!

Hi everyone,
I too have suffered this issue. I can boot from a Aconis bootable CD, but it does not see my drives on my laptop. So I'm stuck. I've read everyone's comments, and the solution seemed to be as follows;
1. I have TI2013 Build 6514 on Win 8 Pro 64 bit with UEFI / GPT
2. The Rescue Media I created on build 6514, boots under UEFI , but does not see GPT disk. Tired under legacy, but same result.
3. Have now downloaded the misnamed Bootable Media from my account and can confirm it is Build 6528.
4. I burned the 6528 ISO directly to CD and boot under Legacy, but it does NOT see the GPT disks.
What am I doing wrong? Help please.

I'm not keen to pump more money into the product by upgrading to 2014.
There really should be a fix to this issue for the 2013 version.
According the post #133, the issue has not been resolved in 2014 version.
Has the 2013 bootable CD worked for anyone, when based off the downloaded bootable media (build 6528)?
- Log in to post comments

The post in #133 refers to booting the disc in uefi mode, which would be resolved by pressing whatever key his pc uses to load the boot menu at startup and has nothing to do with the GPT issue. The downloadable cd build 6528 worked on my GPT systems, and there are numerous posts in this thread indicating that it also worked for them. Can you post a screen capture of your system in disk management? If build 6528 isn't working for you, I suspect that your disk may have been converted to dynamic at some point.
Acronis is offering a free upgrade to 2014 for 2013 users on Windows 8/8.1. If your disk isn't dynamic, 2014 would probably solve your issue with the boot cd.

Brett,
First of all, as you have a recovery problem Acronis will currently provide support at no charge.
What brand and model is your laptop?
If it is a Windows 8 model, did you also try switching off Secure Boot (if the BIOS/Firmware allows this)?
Are your disk drives hybrid ones?
When booting from the CD press F11 just after the Acronis Loading....... message, you should then see a command box pop up with the word QUIET....
Remove the word QUIET and type in ACPI=OFF see if that works, if not reboot get to the QUIET entry and try NOAPIC if that doesn't work try the two together.
If any of those combinations work (and the UEFI switched to legacy and no Secure Boot) you can then burn your own CD with those parameters entered (where it says parameters in the media builder wizard).
If it still doesn't work then produce an acronis System report as per this entry for 2014
http://www.acronis.com/support/documentation/ATIH2014/index.html#13948…
and see if Acronis can make a specialised boot environment for your machine. Note, this will not allow the reboot into Linux from within Windows or the ASRM to work, only a USB stick or CD will work.
***EDIT***
Edited F10 to read F11.

On a clear disk you can seek forever

Thanks for the advice Colin. Tried hitting F10, but did not get any "quiet" message. I still get the messages as per the screen shot I posted previously.
I have now been able to generate a system report as per the link you provided, so have sent this to Acronis support. Will wait and see what they come back with.
My laptop is a Sony SVT13125CGS, running windows 8.1 64 bit.
Not sure what else I can try now, except the upgrade to 2014 to see if that works.
