windows 7 compatibility issues

I have been running Windows 7 ultimate in beta and RC releases, and have had no problems using Acronis TI 10 - backups and restores working to spec executing from within windows.

However, I am now testing the full release Windows 7 Professional (released 18/08/2009 for Microsoft partners), and although  Acronis True Image 10 installs without a problem it will not start. The message box states that it is incompatible with Windows 7, and when I try to run it under either XP or Vista compatibility mode it will not start.

I also understand from various threads that TI 2009 has run issues with Windows 7.

I will be testing Acronis TI10 with the full release Ultimate version next week, but can anyone advise of any similar issues.

Many of my customers use Acronis TI 10 or 2009, and some wish to move to Windows 7 on commercial release in October.  Is there a windows 7 work-a-round (I don't mean the dos boot method - I mean from within windows) available or in the pipe-line.

Thanks.

I had the same experience with TI version 10 on Windows 7. If you disable the Program Compatibility Assistant Service as a test, TI 10 seems to run without any problems on the RTM version of Windows 7. Like you, however, I would prefer to understand the exact nature of the incompatibility before trusting the program. If there is a potential for data corruption or other serious issues that's one thing, but if it is judged "incompatible" only because the vendor's latest release is "more compatible" with Windows 7 then that's another issue.

Could Acronis Support comment on the specific technical issues that caused TI Home Version 10 to be labeled by Microsoft as incompatible? We know, for example, that Version 10 will not fix the BCD after restoration like the later versions of TI Home will do. Are there any other issues?

Hello all,

Thank you for using Acronis Products

At the moment, the following Acronis products can be installed on Windows 7:

All the future major version upgrades of Acronis products are planned to support Windows 7 operating systems. For more detailed information on the particular editions of the operating system supported please refer to the respective hardware requirements sections of the product user guides.

As workaround I may recommend you to use Acronis bootable disc for backup/restore purposes.

Mark,

Under Win7 Ultimate RTM - TI10 has same behaviour as Professional - installed OK, but won't execute.

I then tried to stop the "Program Compatibility Assistant Service" as you suggested. Funny thing was that it was already stopped - seems to be set as a default. Started service and re-ran compatibility - no luck.

I think that as TI10 and above apparently did work in pre-release versions, Acronis should be reporting back to Microsoft that there is now a problem. I doubt they will as "you'll have to buy a new version (aka TI 2010)" will generate more revenue.

Like you I am really annoyed regarding the Acronis stock answer, and also because I have customers who within the last two weeks have purchased TI 2009 thinking that it will work with Windows 7.

I can understand Acronis' reluctance to fix pre-TI 2009 - no problem with that, but Acronis need to provide a fix for TI 2009.

You would need to Disable the service to keep it from running and blocking execution of TI 10. Use caution with this - do it only for testing purposes. If you keep the service disabled then it will not block other programs that have nasty issues with the newer versions of Windows.

I inquired about how the Program Compatibility process works with some contacts at Microsoft and they told me that there is a group whose job it is to test all popular applications with Windows 7. When they run into compatibility issues they attempt to devise a workaround, like causing the app to run in one of the compatibility modes for Vista or XP. Failing that, they contact the manufacturer to work with their developers. If the manufacturer says something like "Our newest version is compatible and we have no plans to fix the older versions", then Microsoft will add the older versions to the blocked list. It sounds like that's what happened with True Image.

Sadly, I don't really believe that there are any incompatibilities with Version 10; it has run perfectly fine on all of the Windows 7 releases to date. But only Acronis can answer that question definitively.

Dmitry, I am currently dual-booting Windows XP SP3 and Windows 7 RC 64-bit. I have TI 10 installed on my XP partition and use the bootable disc for images/restores on my Win7 partition as you said. I'd like to know, when will TI 2010 be ready for prime time? Will it be available in 64-bit? Also, do you have to back up your data online to use it?

Hello all,

Andromeda492, we have a strict company policy that prohibits us from discussing any future products, release dates and features of such products.

One thing I can comment - yes, new version will support 64 bit systems.

Thank you for understanding!

I also would like to know what the "incompatibility" between TIH 10 and Win7 is.  I used TIH 10 in Win7 RC with no apparent problems.

I've started testing TIH 2010 but it is really incompatible with UAC in Win7.  Turning off UAC is not a satisfactory solution.

What error messages do you get in the Windows logs using TI 2010? Is it that "interactive service" one? or VSS errors? Are you making incremental backups?
Me, I only make full images, and I'm going to keep using my TI 10 CD to make my .tib's outside of Windows for the meantime, but I am interested in seeing how people are faring testing 2010. I was also wondering...do you have to use the online component?

What problems are you having?

I'm running TI2010 on Win7 x64 RTM Ultimate and launch the app from a limited account, which then prompts (via UAC) for an admin account. After providing the necessary credentials, TI2010 seems to execute without issue.

With that said, I've only done full backups to an eSATA drive but so far I haven't had a problem with UAC.

i am running win 7 64bit RTM and use a bootable Acronis True Image Echo workstation USB that I built using the instructions supplied by Acronis. this is the easiest solution as you don't have to install acronis on win 7. just install it on xp or vista to build the boot keys.

I think that involves a version of TI I don't have.
I've made an .ISO of my TI 10 CD from my XP install so I can burn one whenever I need to. Is it really better to have it on USB?

Hello all,

Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

The issue we reported here initially is not common, because our program should not display any compatibility messages with work of Windows 7. We have tested this version with all common editions of Windows 7 with success.

Could you please let us investigate the issue and do the following?

- Download the file;
- Run the downloaded file
The gathered information will be put in adv_report.zip in the same folder, where the AcronisInfo was saved.
Running AcronisInfo may take up to 5 minutes.

Could you please make screenshot with the error and send it to us?

If you are not familiar with making screen shots, please read the below step-by-step instructions.

- Get to the window which you want to make a screen shot of;
- Hit the (Alt+)PrintScreen button on your keyboard;
- Run Paint usually available in Start\Programs\Accessories or another graphics application;
- Choose Paste command in Edit menu;
- Save the result picture in JPEG format being preferable.

Then submit a request for technical support. Attach all the collected files and information to your request along with the step-by-step description of the actions taken before the issue appears and the link to this thread. We will do our best to investigate the problem and provide you with a solution.

Thank you.

I have compiled the requested information, but there is no option available in support that I can see to send it to you - only knowledgebase and forum.
Please advise.

This one's for Mitri or Alexander,
Having serious problems with windows 7 home premium and Acronis 2012. It installs fine but after that I get the infamous screens from microsoft saying that the program has encountered a problem and then gives a close button. I've paid $29.95 for an upgrade from 2010 and don't know what to do here at this point.. I'm really stuck. I made a backup on sunday but only get the program to run maybe 2 out of 25times. That simply is unacceptable for a program which is supposed to be used to get someone out of an emergency situation. What if I had a situation I was in where I had a backup and needed to restore from that and have a problem like this? It does not lend itself to credibility. I've noticed this happeneing in the last week and have been through probably 7 install/uninstall procedures. Need Major Helppppppppppp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joseph,
Not to jump in, but since you want help with 2012 you should post your problem to the Acronis True Image Home 2012 forum so that more folks can take a look at your issues and try to help you out.
Once you post in the 2012 forum, we can start suggesting some steps to possibly correct your issues.

Ironically enough right above where I was posting last night I found something with 2010 and compatibility issues that seems that did fix my problem as I'm now able to get this to run where it would not before. Basically, it dealt with changing some file names and also some registry entries that pointed to those files and it looks like I'm good to go.Thanks though.

Hi - I'm unable to run Acronis True Image 2018 on my computer.

It seems to install, but it doesn't run at all.

The Windows 10 Program Compatibility Troubleshooter indicates that TrueImageLauncher is incompatible with my system.

Is this a completely lost cause, or is there some other way to run True Image (e.g. command line interface)?

Thanks

Thomas, please open a New Topic in the Acronis True Image 2018 Forum for your problem.

This forum is for obsolete Acronis products and this topic has been untouched since 2012.
