Feedback on Acronis Forum
Dear Acronis Community,
finally this day has come and we have moved to a new forum built on Drupal 8! The old forum hasn't been updated for a very long time and this change will allow us to build new long-awaited functionality, as well as to leave behind some issues we had with the old platform.
What have been done (Stage 1):
- Main forum functionality completely re-built on the new platform Drupal 8
- Fixed security and performance issues
- Content migrated to the new platform
- Applied custom design skins compliant with our brand theme
- new item Story - will be used for creating and displaying content that informs or engages visitors.
The first phase is to migrate the basic functionality to the new platform. After full migration we will start working on adding new nice features to the logic.
Some features you might be used to that have been moved to the phase 2:
- quote -> will be added later (WEB-20737)
- file attachements - >will be added later (WEB-20726), but with the new text editor it will be possible to copy\paste all pictures directly to the text. To upload logfiles we can temporary suggest using the public services like Google Drive, Dropbox.
(!) all threads will get the status "Solution required". We'll introduce the new logic of closing the threads in the phase 2. The topic starter will be able to mark a particular comment as a solution and close the thread.
(!) old private messages are not compatible with the new module
We're aware of the reported issues and usability feedbacks and are working on the new patches, which will cover:
- new fonts with more contrast
- search index
- issues with commented/created topics shown for a different profile
- information about new content not shown correctly
- improved navigation (quick links to the top/to the last comment/to the new comments)
- old sticky posts will be added

I've been thinking about my comment and it may just be that the visual is so different it will take some getting used to. As long as the functionality remains I'm sure I will be happy with it. I think the thing that strikes me most is the washed out color of the text. I immediately thought I was just seeing a comment or notice and not something I could access because of the light grey color.
Although the text window recognizes a spelling or typographical error, when I right click on the word in question there are only three choices, cut, copy and paste. There is no correct spelling solution offered.
Also, for the one other post I made I did not get and email notification of a reply though I did get one from you. Perhaps some early glitches still need to be ironed out.
Thank you very much for the detailed comment - as far as I can see the visual part is one of the main drivers. I've already submited a task to change the fonts and add more contrast - > should be done soon as a priority task. We'll continue to improve the interface based on users feedback.
There were issues with the notification template, some of the used tokens didn't render correctly - now everything should be fine. Please check you had marked the box

Thanks. Almost as soon as I submitted my last response to you I was notified of a reply from my other post. Like I said, some glitches probably still remain. The check box you show is not the same as what appears below the message. Is yours a general configuration option? Also, what about the spelling error corrections?
The general setting is located in your personal profile

- skroll to the bottom and under the Signature field you'll find this checkbox
I'll research if it is possible to embed a spell checker into the text editor. Cannot provide exect estimate right now - should be discussed with the developers.
I'm sorry to join the throng of complainers, but I must. The new forum is very hard to read. In the index, the thread title is quite visible, but the "Posted on" and "Last reply" fields are nearly invisible. The post content is a little better but still quite hard to read.
I found the previous format quite good. You stated that this new format has function missing in the previous one, and I guess that must be good. But having better function in a nearly unreadable forum is not a very good trade.
This doesn't make Acronis look good. (In fact, it makes Acronis hard to see.)
I'm seeing the spell checking function working. Some misspelled words are being auto corrected and others are being underlined in red. Right clicking the red underlined words is bringing up a context menu with suggested words and the ability to add the word to the dictionary.
The spell checker does not work for me, but I think the spell checking must, in part, be a function of the local browser. (Nothing is being sent to the Acronis server when a spelling error is detected.) For me, the unknown word is underlined in red, but right clicking brings up only a copy/paste drop down menu. I am using Firefox 15.0.1 on Windows 10.
Another completely unrelated error: In the email notification that this thread had a new posting the email text was " I&#039;m seeing the spell… ". This is not a big problem but it doesn't look professional.

I agree. The old index page was much more condensed - many more entries per page.
Another problem with this new forum: The doesn't seem to be an easy "Reply with Quote" feature. If it is available I can find it. There is a block quote (which I used above) but it makes no reference to the source of the quote.
Also, the forum "Preview" function just failed with an error message: " The website encountered an unexpected error. Please try again later. " .
I'm sure some problems are just user learning curve issues, but some of this is either poor capabilities of the Drupal product and/or poor design of the forum.
I would strongly recommend to Acronis that they return to the old forum for the general public and let a bunch of us - anybody who wants to - test the new forum.
Well, I'm running Firefox v20 & the new forum layout is just terrible.
The colours are all wrong, no contrast & the text is way too small etc., etc.
Also, there are no log in or log out buttons to be seen anywhere on any page.
Please bring back the old forum layout. At least I could see & use all the features.

As for the spell checker: By default, CKEditor (default Drupal text editor) is configured to leverage your browser's spell check capability. Make sure your browser's spell checker is enabled in your browser's settings. To access suggested corrections for misspelled words, it may be necessary to hold the Control or command (Mac) key while right-clicking the misspelling.
The mark all read feature does not work for me. Also why does the font have to be so big, it would be nice to see a more condensed listing of problems on one page. I'm sure you looked at many forum styles, I personally like Xenforo, it has great forum software, you should look at it if you haven't already
A misspelled or mistyped word is recognized by 'something' but it doesn't invoke a spell checker. It simply opens up a cut/copy/paste window. Nice to see the darker text but but this new forum has a long way to go before it's even close to the old one.
Ekaterina explained that in post, uh, gee, there's not post number to refer to. Another problem with the new forum.
Anyway, Ekaterina explained that you have spell checking enabled in your browser (which is probably the case) and then do a Ctrl-right click (Windows) or Cmd-right click (Mac) to get the spelling choices.
In my opinion, having a non-standard way of invoking spell checking is as bad as not having it at all. This forum is not ready for prime time.
Another problem. I am getting two email notifications whenever this thread is updated. I guess that's better than not getting any notification, but it's not good.

I'm running latest Firefox build (54.0), biggest problem I have with the new layout is I don't see any logic in the UX.
The lack of contrast in forum indexes makes it harder to distinguish between threads. It looks like the designer has tried to compensate by having bigger spacing to help create separation and legibility... I don't see this as an ideal solution as it significantly increases the amount of scrolling users have to do to get information.
For what it's worth (which, admittedly, is not much) I now pretty much avoid this forum because of the new format. It irritates me just to look at it. I used to browse the old forum multiple times a day just to see what was being discussed.

I agree 100% the new forum looks awful but for some reason they paid for this forum format, some sales person did a good job of selling it I guess. There are so many much better forum types to choose from:
I agree that all three of those are better formats (as was the old Acronis forum). The last two you mentioned each uses a format I've seen on several forums. Both use phpBB so I assume those are canned formats available with phpBB. Acronis could certainly do worse. (And did!)
The first forum format I listed was Xenforo forum format used by Adguard. I'll stop browsing the Acronis forum like you *IF* they keep this forum option which I BET they will because unfortunately they paid for it already sadly!! They should have asked the user community for advice or direction but they didn't!
Hello Ekaterina, thanks for saving the Acronis forum from this very aged platform. I like the design, I mean it could case controversies but to be honest everything is "flat" and "clean" today. I haven't tested it on a mobile device yet.
There is one thing that should be on your priority list. Please allow the upload of txt files. This would avoid lengthy posts.
I also miss the a formatting like <code>test</code> that would traditionally result in an output with a fixed font like Courier New in most forums.
Changing the language will not translate all the links on the right pane but not even the categories.
Is the 'New Posts' alert working correctly? It had been working for me until a couple of days ago when I noticed new posts but there is no green-colored "new posts" text displayed on the forum page.
I've tried it with IE11 & Firefox (updated ver 54.0).
I noticed the green-colored "new posts" display works when I'm on the main "Forums" page but when I go to teh actual forum page with the threads, it's not there.
Hi, I wasn't to familiar with the old forum as I haven't had many problems but had a problem today and one thing I noticed right off is the search and login boxes use a very light color for the text that I cannot see it good. I know you want things to look good but just make the login and search text color black. This is a site that functionality out weighs being pretty to an extent. Us old people need to see the stuff on the screen lol.
I too was having a spell check problem but found holding down the shift key and right clicking on the word came up with the normal Firefox menu. Something is over riding the default right click at least for Firefox.
I am using the IMCE file manager to attach JPEG images to my posts. When I select the files the application pastes each image into the post which makes for very large posts. Hopefully the new version that will accept uploaded files will also accept JPG files along with the LOG files.
Is there a document or user's guide available that covers the basics for using the new forum?

Have you merged my Acronis account with the Acronis forum account? Because I can no longer sign in using the old password I had for the forums. I have to sign in with the password I have for my Acronis account. However, after signing in, it seems like I have the same user name on the forum as before. So if you could clarify this maybe, that would be helpful.

Hi, i face an issue like this.
I have 2 different customer, with 2 different VM on the same cluster managed by same vcenter. So I install 2 agent in 2 different Windows machine connect to the same vcenter. But, only the first agent can detect that vcenter to manage backup those VM. Any advice for my issue?

PLEASE let me know how to interact with the Acronis community. I have ANI 12 perpetual license and a valid serial number but cannot get support on how to install in Windows 10. After literally a couple of hours, and a message "ATI successfully repaired" I finally found this forum that appears to offer help.
Let me know how to proceed....
Lee you should wait some few days and upgrade to ATIH 2018 perpetual license to ensure best compatibility with Windows 10. It's worth it.
Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, it's too late. I purchased ATIH 2017 a couple of days ago.
The good news is that it seems to run great with Win 10. I now have backed up the drives/files that I need and so far am impressed with the program.
Lee, with some luck you have purchased it late enough there is a grace period for free or majorly discounted upgrades from ATIH 2017 to 2018, at least this was usual in the past, just lookout for ATIH 2018 when it is released and contact Acronis or check the conditions for a free upgrade.
Lately (the last few weeks?) the forum's email notifications I get are unformated. That is, no spacing between lines or paragraphs. In addition, when using an email client - Thunderbird - the URLs are not clickable. If I use a browser to access my email providers web interface the URLs are clickable, but I never use that interface except to check problems like this.

I agree with Patrick on this. I use Thunderbird as my email client and I am experiencing the same thing that he is describing. To read the comments I first have to go to Acronis.com and log into my account. Then I have to copy and paste the link into my browser, which happens to be Firefox, and then hit the enter key. If I paste the link into the browser without first logging in I receive an error message telling me that the message is not available.
The notification that I am receiving is absolutely useless. If you can't include viable hyperlinks then supply the message instead of the information that is currently being provided.
It is hard to read but I have this issue, too. I was told that there are forum fixes and updates coming. I guess after the ATIH 2018 release
How do I get the installation file "Backup_Agent_for_Linux_x86_64.bin" to the Linux Server with wget or curl?
Why aren't there proper repositories? Why do I have to check manually dependencies and version numbers on a computer?
