Migrate Easy 7.0 worked fine but now skips over all operations
Hello, I am a new poster.
I have used my Migrate Easy 7.0 twice before on my computer to clone a new HD with no problems. In fact, I could not believe how easy it was to use. However, when I now try to clone a new HD, the process appears to run normal in that it reboots, locks the partitions, does the checking partitions, and then the synchronizing with operating system, but then within seconds, says Congratulations! it is done.
Before, it would take an hour to complete, now only seconds, and when I then check the new HD, it does not even show up and under Disk Management, it shows unallocated disk space.
The only difference is that this time, I am using a HD that was formally loaded with Windows 7. Before, I either had a virgin new HD or one that had Vista on it. I am running Vista on the commputer that has Migrate Easy installed on it.
Even though I always select the option to delete the partitions, is there something from Windows 7 on the HD I am trying to overwrite that prevents ME7 from working?
Thank you in advance for any replies.
Are you starting ME7 in Windows or from the CD?
If ME7 is running in a W7 environment, it's possible W7 has locked the drive, however, ME7 is the same as the clone function in True Image itself, and I don't recall anyone reporting this as a problem.
Has W7 or Vista installed any major updates recently?
Have you installed any new software that runs as a utility between the last successful use of ME7 and now?
Have you run chkdsk /r on the drive to see if there are any errors that are confusing ME7?
Is the new drive external or internal to the PC?
Thanks Colin B for your reply.
I actually got it working this week but not sure how or why. I ended up taking the HDD and temporaily connecting it up to one of my other PCs running Windows XP and that also has PowerQuest Partition Magic 8.0 installed. I ran the Partition Magic program on the HDD and it reported errors in configuration on the drive, not errors in the read/write function. It also said it could fix it, so I let it and it did within seconds. Then I retried this same HDD back on my Vista PC with ME7 and this time it worked.
To answer your questions above:
I was starting ME7 in Windows Vista but of course to perform the task, it had to reboot. The it would run the task in a DOS like state.
ME7 is installed in a Vista PC. The only reference to Windows 7 was that the drive I was trying to copy to was pulled from a Windows 7 PC and had Windows 7 OS installed on it.
My Vista PC always installs the latest Windows updates.
I have not installed any other new software that I am aware of. I did install the 2011 version of my AntiVirus program.
Had not run chkdsk /r on this HDD.
This pulled HDD was a bare Internal SATA HDD but I was using it in a USB SATA HDD docking station to temporarily connect it to my PC.
Again, not sure what really fixed it but I suspect that PowerQuest Partition Magic must have done something.
I have the same problem reported by papajohn. Migrate Easy took 30 seconds to "migrate" a 1TB disk to a 2 TB Hitachi on my windows 7 desktop.
The migration did not work, there is no data on the new disk.
The first two times I tried the migration, the 2 TB disk was unallocated. I formatted the disk before I tried it a third time. I am running Windows 7 32bit home edition.
Is your drive the same sort of size as that mentioned by Etienne?
Have you tried running DiskPart on the new drive before formatting it?
Have you just purchased ME7 within the last 30 days? If you have, you could try Acronis Chat Support and see if they can solve the problem.
No - DiskPart was not necessary, I see the full 1.8 TB disk from Windows now. I am running the evaluation edition, I'm certainly going to buy it or another Acronis product that includes it if it works. I feel I have waisted a lot of time trying to make it work. Is it possible that ME7 is not compatible with windows 7?

I don't know how often Acronis update ME7, I have used it in a Windows 7 VM machine and it seems to work OK. As I said, Disk Director 11 and True Image Home 2011 have a clone function (which are Windows 7 aware) and is either ME7 bundled into those products or ME7 is the clone feature of those products sold as standalone. As the version name has stayed the same for over 2 years now, it is hard to say if they've updated the build of ME7 over that time.
