Aconis, I think you should think about your GUI a bit more.
I have recently upgraded from TI Home 11 to TI 2014.
I think TI 11 has a better GUI, more logical and intuative, easier.
It seems you have made it more difficult to use, IMHO.

My main gripe is that Sync can not do a very funamental task that I require.
That is to sync a single folder on my NAS drive with corresponding folders on both my PC and laptop.
Because TI will not allow a single folder to be involved in more than 1 sync.
If you can change that I would be very grateful.
Until then I have to use another sync program to do this, and most are capable.
It's a real pitty that TI sync is limited in this way.

I would also like if it was not necessary to create a sync account, but only an option for users that need it for the Acronis cloud.
I only use my private home network and don't require the cloud or any other functions that the account offers.
I have found that signing in takes far too long and at least half the time the certification server is not available, you get a message to try again later, so too bad if you need to use it straight away.

Thanks,
Ken.

1. A usable UI. The current UI is appalling and does not work on hi dpi systems. Why do these type of Apps always have such poor UI's? Skinning apps should be banned IMHO as 99.9% of apps do it so poorly.
2. Built in partitioning, with support for hfs/bootcamp etc.
3. Better keyboard support and/or trackpad support in the PE environment.
4. Support for restoring WIM backups, to specific partitions (unlike MS)
5. Less cloud rubbish and more core professional functionality.

1) Better support for Windows 8(.1), for example Sequence Boot Manager is only for Windows 7.

2) Add GPT-disk support for Try & Decide, looks like a very cool useful feature but unable to use this because I'm running Windows 8.1 with UEFI, which leads me back to number 1.

3) Better managing backup file, posiblity to change name if needed for clarity.

4) Alot of work needs to be done for Email (Outlook 2013) backup, I'm experiencing ALOT of issues. When you run the first backup with Outlook closed, everything looks fine. Try to run it a second time without opening Outlook in between, it will fail saying that the files are corrupt. Also when you create a backup of Outlook mail with Outlook closed, after the backup you won't be able to start Outlook because the files are still locked.. what's up with this??? Serieously very very buggy email backup.

5) If you delete backups through Windows Explorer, you won't be able to clean up this list within Backup consolidations. This shouldn't be the case.

Don't get me wrong, most of the features work good but this is kinda frustating for such a 'mature' product. So basicly: fix the features and expand the support of them BEFORE bringing in more features.

A. J.
On point #3, in creating the backup task, user does have control over the name of the storage folder where backups stored; plus can control or assign all the first part of the the name of tib backup file (except for the ending suffix).

This video illustrates other points but it does illustrate where the name can be custom assigned.
http://screencast.com/t/o7CemZSs

On point 5, here is the only accpetable method right now for deleting backups and it must be done from within the program.

http://forum.acronis.com/system/files/delete-backup-file.jpg

These are not to belittle the points you are making but thought these might help showing the current options.

Remove the 'Operation in progress' feature of Acronis.

If Acronis is running when my PC restarts (either for system update or I select to shutdown), I must wait for the current job to complete before I can restart.

I understand this is to prevent backup corruption, however, my backup job takes 2hrs and i'm not going to wait that long before I can get access to my PC again... so most of the time I physically power off the PC (risking corruption to the OS as well).

This would not be acceptable in a corporate environment, especially in the event a system needed to be rebooted to fix a production issue and I had several hundred users or a factory waiting for the server...

At least give me the option to disable this feature.

The interface has changed over the years, but it remains counter intuitive, and illogical. My wish would be for Acronis to stop changing the interface and rather work on the known bugs in the program.

And if you *do* change the interface, how about having a 7-year-old review it for logical design before it's released? Seriously, you guys at Acronis don't have much of a clue about logical interfaces. There is no way to customize the toolbar to have only features I would want to frequently use on it. 'Create Bootable Media' is a permanent feature of the toolbar??? How often am I going to use *that* (probably once or twice, then rarely or never). The toolbar should be customizable. This is a standard feature of nearly all modern interface designs.

The current interface has acres of wasted space (empty space), yet options are tucked together tightly (like Backup Now and Restore), almost inviting miss-clicks.

But fix the bugs. Fix the bugs. Fix the bugs.

KennyK - I agree, application stability really concerns me. Backups are something I absolutely rely on and it leaves me feeling very uncomfortable having to work around application issues when I need to rely on my backups in the event of disaster.

Whats more, I really dislike having to pay for application support, then being asked to work around what appears to be a bug.

I chose Acronis for its positive reviews, professional appears and ease of use. I use TI to back up my NAS using an incremental backup scheme - something I would consider a fairly standard configuration, however have had to work around several issues to get this to work.

TI has some nice features, but I would much rather something rock solid and I could rely on, than something feature rich but not always available when I need it.

Sorry guys... just my opinion.

Add ability to pause the backup so that you can do other tasks or even reboot the computer and continue the backup from where it left off.

Integrate the email backup with the regular backups. Now I have two backups one a full backup with incremental's and the other an email backup. There should be an option to do both at the same time.

This may seem simple, but often the simplest solution is the best.

Why does it take SO long to initially load the program?

If a backup file is deleted outside the program, a different backup version cannot be accessed due to “not found” and other errors. Please fix this.

Please make it possible to select, edit, and delete multiple backup files (especially delete).

WD external Harddisks allow the user to setup a password before the disk can be accessed. I normally make my backups using a bootable CD but then I can't use a password on the HD as ATI doesn't support that. I guess it wouldn't be too complex to recognize the HD and find out that PW protection is enabled and then prompt for the PW?

What I would like to see is the ability to choose to backup my files in the same format that they are now, not in a TIB or ZIP file but just as they are. Why is there no facility to do this? As it is I use no compression on my backups so what is the advantage of having them in TIB files. Also if they were backed up as is, there would be less chance of corruption and it would be much simpler to grab files for restore purposes without having to go through the programme interface.

The free backup programme Cobian does this so why not one with all the bells and whistles of Acronis?

My wish list is like most here:

1) Make the software you currently have work as it should work. With so many hardware differences I understand it's difficult to please everyone however when you are talking basic functionality that seems to be failing a lot of people, that should be at the front of the line for fixing. One specific item I don't like is the validation occurs on the entire backup string, not just the current file or just the main file and it's differential for instance. I have no idea how large your developer force is but you have a lot of folks out here that are willing to run beta versions of your software and give you valuable feedback. If you must drive to a schedule, start early. Do not put out a product that isn't ready.

2) Keep it simple. We do not want to purchase new backup software with a hot new GUI if it's cumbersome to navigate, create your backups, or more importantly restore backups.

3) Don't release a new version just because the calendar year changed unless you have made some significant enhancements. I understand Acronis is trying to make some money so they employ this strategy of releasing a new version each year. This tactic works great if you are adding new compatibility or a major rework to the applications, but not if there was no real functional change. You just harm your reputation.

A lot of the wish lists (complaints) you are reading in this thread have to do with the failure of the product and I'll be honest, Acronis use to be a premier name brand but ever since True Image 2012, 2013 and 2014 it has been taking a dive, and I've been purchasing Acronis products since I think 2004/2005 I guess. When 2014 came out, even though the Premium upgrade was only $30, I refused to purchase it simply because all the problems in 2013 hadn't been fixed and I saw no benefits to upgrading. I sincerely hope that when 2015 version comes out that every feature works.

I hope these comments are taken well because I'd like to upgrade my backup software and keep it current when it benefits me.

Allow the pausing of a backup.

Have a command that wipes out all the backups and the scripts files from the program so that you can do a new scheme when you change drives or better yet have the program allow you to change external drives without it getting confused as to where the files are and how many versions you have.

Combine the email and disk backup into one backup with a feature to allow you to access your email files separately from your regular files. Do this also for your web favorites.

Provide templates of common backup routines with fill in the blank drive letter, file name etc. The program has a lot of different choices and most of us don't have a clue of which choices make the most sense.

I have only used 2014 for a total of about 2 hours before erasing it and restoring my version of 2010.

There are several reasons for this relating to the functionality and user interface.
Here are my key points of irritation you can look into, if you dare...

UPGRADING to 2014/whatever. Preserve & upgrade old backup tasks.

During the upgrade process I was told to uninstall the previous version, 2010. This resulted in removal of my backup task scripts.

Result: loss of all backup tasks, all the time and effort in creating and fine-tuning them over several years was lost, totally lost. I spent eight hours over the weekend having to reinstall the old version, recover the lost task scripts from backup and document them on in detail against future loss. (Making a copy of a script does not include all setting such as time/date schedule in readable formats.)

Recommendation: Most sensible PC applications allow an easy upgrade path, preserving old settings, scripts, etc., to ease the customer experience. I do not want to spend hours/days documenting my scripts then resetting them into the new version each time I upgrade. You must have a method of preserving, scanning and upgrading all backup scripts, even if you have to uninstall the previous version first???

USER INTERFACE, comparing 2010 with 2014 and to-come...

The user interface of 2014 appears a mess compared with the more efficient layout of 2010.
Although 2010 could be improved in a number of ways the new (new to me) version looked and felt a lot worse.

Here are the key points:-

1. In 2010 there was a tabbed layout for Scheduled and Unscheduled tasks, in 2014 I saw only a single list of everything.

Recommendation: Ability to organise tasks in various ways, such as Scheduled & Unscheduled.

2. In 2010 the experience with Task Options is fairly quick and simple, click on an option and it's setting appear immediately. With the newer 2014 interface the options are animated to glide open, you have to wait a moment for one to open then close. Irritating, VERY IRRITATING.

Recommendation: Create a tasks management panel with the key headers on the left and the option/setting on the right, just a click-to-display immediately would be far simpler, efficient and quick for all busy users.

3. Big buttons. Is there a rule that all new applications have to have BIG BUTTONS? I didn't go into the depth of the 2014 interface to learn whether these can be shrunk, but does it all have to look like it was designed by or for 13-year-olds?

Recommendation: Grown-up interface features and styling.

That was my experience from the purchased upgrade of 2014. At this stage I am very reluctant to install it again because of these minor irritations and the fact I shall have to spend an hour or two recovering and setting all my backup tasks, Scheduled and Unscheduled.

If I hear that this situation has been addressed I may return, in a few weeks, months or years.

(As side note about irritations in 2010, whenever expanding the information columns in Tasks & Logs panel, the column widths would snap back to a default size.  Not friendly if you want to keep a column at a custom width to see the entries all the time.  Keep this is mind if you ever try to revert to that style of layout.)

(I design my own web sites and a various engineering projects so if you ever want some serious professional advice/opinion you know where to reach me.)

I think they do "stupid" bugs in purpose because otherwise they would ended with final software which does not need anything anymore. Maybe some maintenance stuff and that's all...
So, what is now wrong will be updated in 2015 but new bugs will be introduced which will be updated in 2016 + new bugs and so on... it seems to be their business model :)

Anyway, for now I'm happy with TIH2014 - it does its job. I love try&decide :)
Also I moved my scripts outside of C disk so they're also backup-ed and not overwritten when system partition is restored.
With that it works great.

List all Reserved Copies separately (as was done in ATI 2012) instead of lumping them all together. If I have, for example, three reserved copies at 15 GB each, it shows one file (the last one) as having 45 GB.

My acronis 2014 flashes at me for half a minute when I change and save the settings of a back-up.
Is this intentional (or a problem with my graphics card)?
Anyway, it should not happen.

I need a function to save a "Custom Scheme" OUTSIDE the Windows Registry.
I lost my scheme when I had to uninstall and re-install ATI because installing the latest update failed.
Uninstalling ATI apparently removes custom schemes from the Registry so that they are lost forever.
I find the Registry to be a weird place to store a custom scheme while other Backup Options are saved to disk in a "Scripts" folder.

1. A bandwidth throttle should be introduced. True image will take over your net connection regardless of size during the initial sync or any other large sync operations. I had to write a firewall rule to limit how much bandwidth is used by Acronis.

2. When you delete a file from the cloud, the change should sync back to your local system. Only changes made locally are synchronized.

3. First level tech support is useless. They need better training or a better escalation path.

4. My local data takes about 26GB of space. My cloud shows I am using 41GB. This needs to be fixed ASAP.

Acronis Cloud web interface.
1. Very inconistent between IE (version 9), Firefox and Chrome. What is the recommend brower.
2 During sycnhronization to the cloud, the information displayed (even with refreshing the browser many times) lags considerably behind what is actually transferred tot the cloud. Hug discrepency between usage total and the number of files transferred files (as displayed).
3. Files appear to be missing when they are actually there. This appears to be related synchronization still running. When synchronization completes it all "syncs" up (excuse the pun).
4. Consolidation works fine. However, a backup (full and incremental versions) consolidate to ONE backup (which can be huge) rather than defaulting to the original size of the tib files. Since I store my tib files in the Acronis Cloud I limit each file to 650 MB. A consolidated backup in my case is over 200 GB. I cannot upload the consolidate backup to the cloud unless I use some external file splitting tool. The option to chose the size of the consolidated backup should be provided.

I decided to complete my upgrade process over the weekend.

Regretted it.

Totally regretted it.

I really, really don't like to see my computer shutdown stopped while completing a process, obviously a backup process running during shutdown.

Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.

Never seen this in the previous version (2010). But the fact that the PC will not shutdown until a process is complete is stupid.

The PC shutdown should not be impaired by Acronis running a process.

If I want the Windows shutdown to complete it should do it, not hang while completing a backup process that could take hours.

Now I have to be more careful to shutdown before a process begins or power off and risk the physical damage to the PC/Windows when Windows did not shutdown due to a backup task running in the background.

FIX IT before you loose another customer and I go out and develop my own backup software.

I agree with Michael. I really don't like that Acronis won't shutdown until the backup has completed. I understand it is to protect the backup from corruption, but if my factory is down because my server needs to be rebooted, I probably won't wait until the backup completes. The first thing i'll do is pull the plug, risking both backup and OS corruption. At the very least, I would like to see an option to abort the backup and shutdown, or disable this feature.

I do like ATI. Generally it does what I want and is easy enough to configure, however I would prefer to see the current version absolutely rock solid, rather than new features or GUI enhancements.

I think I've found another stupid problem to fix for the next attempt.

If a full backup task fails it can lead a corrupted or incomplete backup file behind it.
When the task begins anew next time it's supposed to overwrite the full backup with a new one.

However, if I tidy up my backup destination drive to remove old backups then Acronis seems to loose its mind and throw a fit, it cannot complete a backup if I remove older ones, even though there's supposed to be only on in the drive at a time.

It there any plan to give up all a switch to add/stop appending all the extra details on backup file names...

backup_full_a.b.c.d.e.d sounds clever, but why can't we switch it off and keep our own naming convention....

My_Backup_Files
Your_Photos
Their_OtherData

Is a LOT clearer to read.

If we don't need all the added detail we should be able to select/deselect it at any time.

Obviously the shutdown issue is irritating, leaving your PC to work through several tasks or watch it struggle at shutdown as it finishes the task before allowing Windows to close safely.

Obviously the developers failed to work through the logic of this problem, as follows:-

A. I want to shut down my PC now, not later. I have to go to a meeting and not leave the PC running while I'm away.

B. I'm backing up to or from an external drive and I just shut it off, so your task will fail.

The issue is difficult to solve if you insist on having the backup application complete a task, especially a differential or incremental one.

The real world answer is to let the PC shut down when the user commands it, then add a switch to control shutdown override if a use is happy with letting it progress to an automatic shutdown.

However, if the task fails an error in the backup chain could occur unless the application is configured to accept the user shutdown and subsequent backup failure.

A failure must be flagged so the backup file is ignored from any chain - task incomplete = do not add to chain.

Click the "Switch to disk mode" option and the resulting backup will be a disk image which will include all partitons. The disk image type backup is your best choice should you need to create a replacemtn disk.

this guide can help you.

THIS!!!! This is HUGE!! I have been fighting with this bug since - well, the sand was a rock. I am SO surprised that they have NOT allowed us a way to edit the list of files IT wants to find so that it doesn't look for ones we (or someone else) have already deleted. At the VERY least, allow it to SKIP the file in question and remove it from the list going forward!

Buzz62,
Just a note to make sure there is no mis-understanding here, the user can specify whatever backup name the user wishes to use and that name will appear on the file. What is at issue here is the suffix the program adds to the end of the user name.

Backup method (full, inc, diff: full, incremental, differential).
Number of backup chain (in the form of b#).
Number of backup version (in the form of s#).
Number of volume (in the form of v#).

An example below.
GH14. Custom Differential Backup Scheme . 6 Diff, Keep 4 chains. & folder

If a user manually deletes part of an archive or moves it to a new location, True Image has no way of knowing this has happened.

If the archive is moved manually, then before a task is run, True Image needs to search for new archives and add it to the task list. If image files within an archive are moved or deleted, then a chain, incremental will obviously fail as part of the archive is missing. This is not a bug but by design.

There is however what could be termed a bug where differentials are concerned, because in theory these ought to be able to be deleted (except of course the original full), however TI still expects to find all differentials in an archive to exist unless they have been deleted within TI in which case TI can then update its' database.

a better way to manage external USB HD when not connected

indeed, leaving an external USB drive always connected is a problem as sometimes the bios and/or the OS thinks it's the main HD and do a mess

Moreover a connected HD can be the victim of some malware, so I prefer disconnetting it, but doing so ATIH does often a mess stopping the programmed backup without any mention

I tried the (apparently) automatic way, i.e. asking it to do the backup when the drive is connected, but this feature simply doesn't work

Support for High DPI (hiDpi) monitors. My laptop has a resolution of 3200x1800. True image 2014 looks terrible regardless of whether I disable the dpi scaling function for this application or not. Many labels are cut-off and/or overlapping others when adding a new backup scheme. I've been using various acronis products for about 6 years now, but this is a big disappointment as it is very difficult to navigate through the application.

In my opinion, please don't add any more features. Just make sure that it is stable and bug-free the way it is.

Don't get me wrong. ATI is a fantastic product. I really like it. I use it on and off since ATI 2011. For some types of software it's not a big deal if there is a certain amount of bugs. Unfortunately this is not the case for a backup solution. Here priority number one must be stability.

There seem to be a number of unhappy customers posting suggestions here. Perhaps one way to help that would be to post a road-map for True Image so we could get an idea of what is intended for the future rather than, as we seem to do, make assumptions that the future consists of irrelevant UI changes.

My personal prediction for the next release is that it will have a flashy new UI consisting of flat icons and a lack of colour and that it will be sold to the user community as a "modern user interface". Under the hood, we'll get a few minor bug fixes. I'd love to know that isn't going to be the case, but I just don't know and there is no road map that I can see to make me think otherwise.

An option to keep Acronis processes from booting and running in the background when the program is not needed. I know, you have lots of neat options for clouds and synch and stuff. But I use my system for video production and need to have NO extraneous processes taking up CPU time. I use True Image to clone my primary disk once a month --- nothing else, although I realize you have provided many other functions. I don't need them but I do need to disable True Image when I'm not using it. Attempting to stop the processes or process trees gives a disallowed error, so I can't even turn True Image off manually. And I suspect the background processes are vastly increasing my boot time, as well.

video_man,
You don't need to have TrueImage installed. You can perform your clone procedure or a backup/restore procedure when booted from the TI Recovery CD. From the CD is the recommended method anyway.

RECOVER FILE:
Used to view backed up chain histories in order to "DELETE" a backup version that failed its Validation - should have more descriptive "graphics" for each saved version.

ATIH 2014 versions are shown as "white tabs" with dates and Full/Incr/Diff descriptions - if you hover over them. I need to know which "versions" have already been Validated, so I can go back several versions, to choose to validate when my system is free from more important tasks.

The colour of the graphic should also specifically indicate which versions "FAILED" their validation process, so I can quickly remove them and save wasted backup space. Right now, ATIH 2014 requires me to cross reference logs, email notifications and Explorer folder lists of files, to figure out which corrupted file version can/should be deleted.

We need more colour coding in the RECOVER FILE command GUI, to identify which file Validations are already done, and more important which Validations that have Failed.

Thanks
Thanks

It would certainly be handy if Drive Cleanser could run multiple disk wipes concurrently. I've discovered that I can launch multiple instances of TrueImage 2013 and kick off multiple cleanings that way but the results are erratic at best. Sometimes the disks get cleaned and other times they don't. It appears that TI isn't self-aware of multiple instances and so seems to conflict with itself.

I noticed a forum topic on this back in 2010 asking for the same feature. Is there a chance that you might consider adding it any time soon? At 3-5 hours to clean a single SSD using "Fast" (all zeroes write) method, it's going to take forever to get through the 30 disks I have.

Thanks for your consideration!

I have a UPS in case I need to shutdown quickly when there's a violent storm. I don't want to be hung up for a long period when I only have a few minutes to power down.

Or what happens when a person installs new software and needs to shut down and boot up again. Instead, your Operations kicks in and takes several hours.

What if a person needs to turn her personal computer back on to access important information or complete some urgent work while Operations in Progress is on a six hour journey?

This needs to be fixed.

Buzz62,
Just a note to make sure there is no mis-understanding here, the user can specify whatever backup name the user wishes to use and that name will appear on the file.

& folder

We'd like to be able to removed those suffixes and manage the backups ourselves!

please please please update the boot media builder of true image 2014 so it can create x64 windows pe boot images. I run windows 7 x64 and the standard linux boot image does not support my usb 3.0. The boot image builder creates a windows x86 image that also does not support my usb 3.0. Acronis has updated disk director to version 12 which can create windows x64 boot images so I can include my x64 bit usb 3.0 drivers. Please please update the boot image builder on true image too.
