Problem at restore from laptop 128 GB ssd to 256 GB ssd
I have a Lenovo laptop with a 128GB SSD disk. I want to move to a larger 256 Samsung SSD (850 EVO). My first attempt resulted in that I got the image to the new SSD but with approx 120 GB unused disk. The partion source looks the following
How can I do the move, keeping the partitions but extending the size of H: so I make use of the available 256 GB disk space?
I forgot to say that I use Acronis True Image Home 2009
Kare, welcome to these User Forums.
Please see KB 2699: Solid state drive support in Acronis products with regard to support for SSD drives in your ATI 2009 software, in particular the statement:
All other Acronis products support Solid State Drives (SSD) with limitations:
- You can perform all the same operations with SSDs as with regular hard disk drives;
- In older Acronis products there is no technology to detect whether a drive is SSD or not and to set the default (optimal) offset for an SSD. In other words when you restore an image to an SSD drive, it will get the default 63 sectors offset instead of 64kb (or a multiple of 64kb) offset recommended for SSD drives even if this offset was in place when the image had been created. This may result in a drop of performance on certain models of SSD drives after the restore.
Beyond this, I would recommend using Backup & Recovery instead of doing cloning, this should attempt to automatically resize the backup data being restored to fit with the new drive size, but if it does not, then download a copy of the free MiniTool Partition Wizard software which you can use to move and resize the partitions on the new drive.
