Hi Wilson,

You can try to erase the tape using Acronis. If it is a used tape you may have a quick formatted tape using another tool which might leave behind some sectors uncleared and Acronis cannot interpret.

Which tape loader do you use?

Hi Raphael,

Many thanks for your assistance. I use Dell PowerVault TL2000 to load the tapes. And I will do inventory, erase as well as rescan the tape using Acronis before backup.

-I find that Acronis always show me that there is a tape in slot 8 even it is an empty slot;
-And two tapes in slot 8 if there is a tape in slot 8;
- I realized that one of the tapes in slot 8 should be a drive because when I try to move the tape to "Free Tapes Pool" it show me that:

Slot                             Content
Drive 1                        (Tape14Dec_slot8)
Slot 1 (mail slot)          empty
Slot 2                          (Tape14Dec_slot2)
.                                     .
.                                     .
.                                     .
Slot 8                           (Tape14Dec_slot8)
.                                     .
.                                     .

Is my case a normal case?

I'm unsure about "Drive" definition here, it may indicate a tape pool has been created. So, in my opinion, the Drive contains a Backup Vault and should be fine.

Please let me know if erasing the tapes could resolve your issue.

Thanks!

Hello dear Support Team,

I have the similar problem with the Tape Drives. I use "HP StorageWorks MSL2024". The capacity of one Tape is 3TB. I have 23.

"Mounting the tape 'Tape 17' to the drive 'HU1126H77E' failed."

I have checked several times. There is enough free space for writing. Also I have checked the other Tapes. But every time the same

Error:

Please let me know, If anyone has some Idea.

Hello Farhad,

thank you for your posting! I've reviewed the error message - usually the line

Cannot open device '\\?\scsi#changer&ven_hp&prod_msl_g3_series#5&abbd15&0&000001#{53f56310-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}'.

refers to the issues with the tape device itself or lack of drivers. So first of all I'd recommend installing all available drivers for your tape device, then updating Acronis Backup software to the latest build (can be downloaded from your personal account as follows http://kb.acronis.com/content/2900).

Next step would be checking the tape device with the vendor diagnostic tool, to make sure it functions correctly. You can download the diagnostic tool at the vendor's website, the most popular vendors can be found in  https://kb.acronis.com/content/46260 (scroll down to 2.Error troubleshooting). Also make sure, the tape device is shown without error in Windows Device manager.

If the tool didn't detect any issues with the tape device, try to detach the tape device and attach again, Detect tape device as described here, then perform Inventory and Scan your tapes anew.  Re-attempt backing up then.

Should the issue persist, please contact Acronis support team for more in-depth investigation.

Thank you,
