Hello. I need to make a non-standard report on the location of data on files on tapes. I did not find a prepared report, and I wanted to manually collect such data from the database, or get some data from C: \ ProgramData \ Acronis \ BackupAndRecovery \ TapeLocation

So. 1st there are no public documentation about database location and structure,

2nd nor info about Export data from TapeLoation Supplementary Files from the topic export-data-tapeloation-supplementary-files of other public manuals.

How can I made my very customized report without such data ?

Hello Roman!

Thank you for posting on Acronis forums.

So. 1st there are no public documentation about database location and structure,

This kind of documentation is not available.

2nd nor info about Export data from TapeLoation Supplementary Files from the topic export-data-tapeloation-supplementary-files of other public manuals.

We have not met any request of this type, no special script is available.

I have forwarded your request on possibility to make a custom report to a respective team and will post their reply.

Ok, thanks.

The situation is simple - there are tapes with data for two years, you need an inventory and report tape / time / content.

This kind of documentation is not available.

Personally, I will not vote against the publication of additional documentation.

We have not met any request of this type, no special script is available.

I can write the script myself, I need documentation on the structure of data in files.

Hello Roman!

I doubt it's going to be documented anytime soon.

What files do these supplementary files appear to be? Some textual data or binary? I have no tapes to have a look at the format. Can you send a few of them? I could try poking around and see if I can make some sense of it.

Hello Peter.
Thanks for your reply.
Sorry if my task is't look clear, so I will try to explain.
We have Acronis Backup 12.5 / 11010 with a lot of old data, some data was recorded on tapes three or five years ago, perhaps more.
We have a list of datastores, such as LTO_5, LTO_6, Dataset_LTO5, etc - 15 or more datasets.

So what we need, as a first step, is next - get tables with data location, for example:
Tape pool / Barcode / last used time / backup set
for all tapes in last 5 year timeline

What we have
- installed system
- a huge pack of tapes prepared for long storage period
- 4300 folders with more than 390.000 objects in the C:\ProgramData\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\TapeLocation\
- folders named like 7AD12345-****-****-****-1234AB12C6E5\ with some non-human readable files of different size
- .meta folders with XML files with tape barcodes
- sqllite database up to 100 mb in the C:\ProgramData\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\ARSM\Database

Due to administrative constraints (local GDPR) I'm not sure I can transfer any files for analysis outside the organization.

For example, I can go to
Settings / tape management / tapes
then select any tape, press "show backup copy",

After that I can see the 3 restore points with different time, select only one, press "restore" and "restore files/folders"

after this selection I can go down down the tree to network folder /(wait a minute) / folderA /(wait) Subfolder B / Subfolder C / some files.

It's just take 15 minutes to get this info from somewhere for one point, and its a main reason to looking for a global report

Hello Roman!

I understand your usecase, your detailed description is what I imagined the problem to be based on your first posts. Some threads pop up from time to time where the desired result can't be achieved with built-in reports and something needs to be hacked together. With tapes though I can't offer any insights.

While you wait for some response to this report request, I'd say it's worth trying to reverse engineer the storage scheme, however painful that is. The knowledge could come in handy the next time you need some unusual work done with tapes.

thank you for sharing the use-case! I've sent your request to the RnD team, will update this thread once we get information from them.

Its one of standard cases - keep data 3/5/10 years with detailed state / files / restored configuration, by CB RF order #471 from 03.06.2015 or something like that. In mostly used software I can keep database of standard SQL data and get any report view directly from the database.

Could you please ask RnD Team for just a bit specific time - monts, half of years,  undefined ?

FYI

A tape from 12.5 / 11010 cannot be imported into  Acronis Backup 12.5 / Build: 13400

Error after rescan - Parts of the following backups are located on tapes that have not been rescanned yet; and I cannot see any data on the tape

Hello Roman,

sorry for the delayed response! The RnD replied that all these parameters can be extracted from the ARSM database  C:\ProgramData\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\ARSM\Database

This can be done with the help of  arsm_dmldb_dump_tool from https://kb.acronis.com/content/32667 . The ARSM service should be stopped in advance. For more focused assistance, we'd recommend opening a support ticket, so that a dedicated engineer can help you with resolving all issues with tapes.

The RnD replied that all these parameters can be extracted from the ARSM database  C:\ProgramData\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\ARSM\Database

It's very interestings, but still without a real solution.

In the C:\ProgramData\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\ARSM\Database we have a pack of *.sqllite files, so I took biggest one and run

arsm_dmldb_dump_tool.exe database <path_ to_arsm.sqlite>

all results - ten more minutes with command-lin report / text such as

 SliceUri (Common::String) = atis:/tape?59D4DC43-70E6-46F8-B694-E94EF3162227/8988BFE8-899F-4A2F-A2C7-BC3841DFFF53/ACF95943-823C-49B4-8B7D-E5D08D1C4190
  Traits (unsigned long) = 0
Root (Composite)
  [Is (Common::String) = ArchiveManagement::SliceInfo]
  [Version (unsigned __int64) = 12]
  AdditionalInformation (Common::String) =

and nothing more, so it's not a solution at all

So in our case this means that Acronis as a backup solution does not comply with local regulations.

Hello, Roman.

Tape location folder contains cached parts of archives. It is used during browsing archive content (list of disks, files) in GUI to avoid using tapes. These are binary parts of archives without user data.

To create a very custom report report about achives/backups, which tapes used to store data you can use REST API. It is possible also to browse disks/files inside backups.

Detailed information about REST API you can try to find in documentaion. If it is not published yet, you can ask our support team to provide description about our API.

Thank you.
