Cloning with Proportional Method: Error Disk Cloning has failed after Synchronizing with the Operating System

I am making a clone of 1TB laptop drive in Dell Laptop running Win10 to a 2TB drive on the USB port.
Acronis purchased yesterday.
Up to the last the step, the process seemed to work. I am using the proportional method.
The last step is Synchronizing with the Operating System (<1m). It runs more than 1 minute. I'd say ~ 5min. It then issues error message:
"Disk Cloning has failed."
It said look at log files. I think these two are the ones. At least they have time stamps about when it failed.
I went through this step twice. Same result.
Any ideas.
Thanks..Dave

The issue with your clone operation looks to be that Acronis is unable to resize your HP_RECOVERY partition in step 6. of the process. This can be because of file system errors on that partition such as bad sectors etc.
I would recommend using Windows Disk Management to allocate a drive letter to the HP_RECOVERY partition then running CHKDSK /R to that drive letter.
The alternative here is to decide if you need to still keep the HP_RECOVERY partition, especially if this would put your computer back to an earlier version of Windows that was supplied with the computer when you received it from HP. If you don't need the partition, then you could use Windows Disk Management to remove it.

Don't estimate the power of backup and recovery either! Cloning works well when it does, but has limitations that can be avoided via a backup and recovery. Take a full disk backup of the original and save it elsewhere. Boot the Acronis recovery media and restore the backup to the new drive. Power off the machine, remove the original drive and pop in the recovered one in the same slot and boot it up. Migration done.
