"VMware-Fehler: 'Der Benutzername oder das Kennwort sind falsch."

Hallo @all,

Ich habe hier einen VM Server (ESXi 5.1) auf dem 2 W2K3 Server laufen. Via VM Protect9 werden beide Virtuelle Windows Maschinen Mo-Fr gesichert, die ganze VM jeweils Samstags.
Die Sicherung erfolgt 14 täglich, rotierend, auf zwei NAS (ungerade und gerade Woche), die Einstellungen an beiden Platten sind identisch. Die Platte wird via fester IP-Adresse aufgerufen (10.10.10.254), Freigabe "Backup", Benutzer: Backup

In der ersten und zweiten Woche (je Erstkopie) lief die Dasi ohne Fehlermeldungen, jetzt ab der dritten Woche hab ich ein Problem.

Dazu nun einige Fragen aus dem Log-File:
1. "ungültiger URI" welche Ursache kann diesen Fehler eintreten lassen? (IE7.0.5730.11 W2K3)
2. "Verbindung mit ESX-Server '10.10.10.192:443' fehlgeschlagen"
3. "VMware-Fehler: 'Der Benutzername oder das Kennwort sind falsch."

Beim Einrichten der Task für die Backupaufgabe wurde mal kein Passwort der VM verlangt.

Hi Oliver,

The login failures come from the fact that the user specified when registering the ESXi host or vCenter under Configure->ESXi hosts has invalid credentials to connect to vSphere (likely you had password changed for this user). You should open up vmProtect web console, go to Configure->ESXi hosts and re-add the ESXi host/vCenter (delete and add it back) specifying the correct user to log into vSphere. Or you can simply edit the credentials of the currently used user.

What concerns the invalid URI message - this needs additional investigation by our support team. It has to deal with how the backup task is created (probably it was created in 8th version and then upgraded to 9th one). The quick workaround is to re-create the failing task (delete the task and then create a new one with the same parameters, i.e. specify the same existing archive as the destination).

it's strange, it works on a day and the next time it works not . i have every time the same user. and i have not changed the user.

Hi Oliver,

If you are using an Active Directory account to authenticate in vSphere (connect to vCenter/ESXi host) then it could be that this account gets locked for whatever reasons some times. I've seen such cases when some security policy triggered temporary lock on the account which was removed on the other day (so it worked one day but didn't on another). The error in your case is pretty straight-forward: the account used to connect to ESXi host/vCenter cannot authenticate at the given moment of time, so I'd dig into that direction - to see if there are some security policies in place which affect this account.

Same problem here. Replica SRV1->SRV2 and SRV2->SRV1 works for months and since a week somme of the Replicas faile with "Nachricht: SOAP-Fehlercode: '12', Beschreibung: 'Cannot complete login due to an incorrect user name or password.', Detail: 'Keine Details.'"

No AD authentification.
Manual start of the replica six hours after the failed replica - replica successfull...

now, a new problem:
SOAP-Fehlercode: '28', Beschreibung: 'Connection refused', Detail: 'connect failed in tcp_connect()

the software does not work reliably. for me this is a gray, because I never know if the fuse has been working reliably in the error case. I'll have to look for other options.

Hi Oliver,

This error is really a general connection one and typically it indicates misconfiguration in networking or firewall properties. I'd really recommended to contact our support team in order to troubleshoot the issue since likely you will have similar problems with any other alternative software and it's better to find the root cause there.

No changes have been made since the installation. The drive is available in the network, accesses are possible.
in vmProtect I have but in the tasks username and password engeben again. I is not the sense of the error, since no changes were made.

Hi Oliver,

The appliance may be connected to vSwitch port which has for example some specific firewall rules applied to it, or it could be related to general physical NIC connection issue (broken switch port). Another possible cause is DNS settings (for example if there are duplicate names in network). While these are just guesses, it makes sense to check them preferably with help from our support team.

P.S. the software may not work one day, but fail on another - there must be a reason for that, i.e. some environmental reasons, since the software code executed on each day is obviously exactly the same (especially for such low-level functions as connection to vCenter/ESX(i) host).

Now another customrer/installation with vmprotect 9

For three weeks no problems, this weekend two days this error, monday and tuesday Backups work finde.
Installation: One physical Server with vcenter apliance, acronis apliance and a few windows vms on the same host. One VMNetwork. Nothing complicated...

Hi Roy,

I just recalled one thread which seems to be applicable here: http://forum.acronis.com/forum/40958 . The problem there was in IP address conflict. Appliance had static IP and there was a permanent conflict with some other machine in network. In your case it could also be the reason (just as a thought).

Note also that 'Cannot complete login due to an incorrect user name or password.' error is through by VMware API itself - it's a SOAP response returned to vmProtect as the result of connection to vCenter attempt. Sometimes it can be an obvious reason such as the changed password for vCenter user or in other cases it can also be the result of IP addresses conflict.

I can also suppose that it's a 5.1 vCenter/ESX(i) host specific problem (for example in this version the connection is rejected for some not obvious reason), however to check that it's required to check through the ESXi/vCenter logs. I'd recommended contacting our support team to figure this out (likely a remote assistance session will be required to find out what the problem is).
